I've just bought a new car upgrading from an A4 TDi 130 Sport

A4 2.5 TDi Avant Quattro Sport : 180HP 6 speed, Full Black Leather Heated Electric front seats, BOSE, RNS-e Sat Nav.

On the RNS-e Sat Nav, the DVD I currently have, do you know if you can upgrade these to a later version of software as more roads come out, (much like tomtom5, 6 & eventually 7 ?)

Things I would like to retro fit are; and I want it to look factory too

Rear Parking Sensors,
Rear Door Window Blinds.
B7 S-Line Steering Wheel
Audi Driver Information System - On the Dash, all I have is the miles left in the tank, but I would like to fit the option so that on the button (I think on the windscreen wiper stalk) you can select current / average mpg etc.

I've noticed that JohnboyC has fitted an RS4 ARB ? Does anybody know if its the B5 or B7 RS4 ARB ?

I wouldn't mind also lowering it a little, its currently still on the standard Quattro Sport 5 Spoke Alloys, i've had the B5 RS4 Reps on my last one so if I goto 18's I want something different, but ideally would like the 19" A6 S-Line Alloys (the multispoke ones)

baaf_1.JPG

I've heard that if I had these 19's on a B6, i'd need 215's fitted and have to suffer negative camber when lowered unless you fit £500 adjustable control arms.

I think this looks mint;

Thanks in Advance Peeps,

Scott

Will post pics when I pick up the car on Saturday

Sounds like a good spec car you have got yourself there.

I have the B7 RS4 ARB fitted - total cost including fitting around £100 - must be your 1st mod as it makes a huge difference - it does NOT affect the ride comfort, but makes it MUCH more planted and fun to drive. I still find the 2.5 engine a heavy old hector and the whole car still feels nose heavy going into bends.....still it provides a bit of grin factor (still miss my old 1999 328 sport coupe)

Rear blinds are very easy to retrofit - someplace in this forum are step by step pics)- total cost around £75 for the pair of blinds. Bit scary drilling the holes in the top of the rear door cards - lots of measuring - they are ace cos you can still open and close the rear door windows whilst the blinds are still up. They are not quite as good as the original rear door blinds which are integral to the door card - you may be lucky and find some in a breaker but they are rare as rocking horse sh*t.

The RNS-e 2008 DVD upgrades to the latest version of RNS-e software. The 2009 version just updates the maps apparently. I would get a 2nd hand 2008 DVD off fleabay. Dealers charge £200 (far too much IMHO). In 2007 Audi Dealers were doing a free RNS-e upgrade - who knows they may do again !

I am running my car on 18" RS6 replicas (a LOT easier to keep clean than those alloys you are looking at) - but if you have time on your hands.....from experience those 19" will corrode around the bolt heads and give you a pretty hard ride. Tyre size are the standard 235 40 ZR 18's.

Rear parking sensors can be retrofitted - Audi do a kit which is a bit expensive....I would look for a rear bumper with the sensor holes on e-bay - I saw one on e-bay recently - went for £15.00. Then you need pukka sensors, getting it sprayed, etc, or would be cheaper to find the whole lot in a scrapper.....

DIS can be retrofitted but is a tad expensive apparently.............hey ho - I stand corrected - thanks Niknak !

Cruise can be retrofitted

I aqm looking to rerofit the B6 MFSW (4 spoke with 6 buttons) - you can retrofit the B7 MFSW but its an expensive job £600 to £700 - and I dont like tinkering with anything airbag related so down to the professionals to do the job ....check these guys out :

http://www.vwcruise.com/

Hope that answers some of your questions.....

Cheers

Hey Niknak......once i get the B6 MFSW I will join you - Gareth quoted me £95 to fit the MFSW as long as I supply the steering wheel, airbag and slip ring.....

I am just up the M61 in Chorley....near J8

Johnboy great well if scooby joins in we won't have a call out fee and receive a 10% which helps, when are you thinking about getting the stearing wheel?

Ian

That sounds like a nice car - I can't wait to see the pics! What colour?

I agree on the multispoke wheels, I think they look lovely. The cleaning would be a nightmare, but as long as they are well sealed, with a bit of dedication it would be worth the hassle IMO :)

I have also fitted rear door blinds to mine, it's quite easy really and a nice mod. Few pics HERE. I didn't even bother looking for oem door blinds in the right colour trim! Needle and haystack spring to mind, but you might be lucky!

Do you want OEM parking sensors? Richardesty in the B7 section has some good results with a hidden strip thats sits behind the bumper - nothing visible externally at all.

Re the 19" wheels, J7USS has them on his I think, I'm sure he can advise you ;)

Not sure need feedback from a chap on this forum who is changing from B6 MFSW to a B7 MFSW - hopefully in the next few weeks....

Thanks !! Looks very similar to yours ;-) Although mine doesn't have folding mirrors and autodip rearview mirror, but it does have a Nokia CK-7W Handsfree kit already fitted.

Where should I get this mod done ? Would it be worth getting the RS4 Rear ARB done too ?

Think i'll leave that mod unless I can find the original rear door blinds. But if they are rare as that, i'm generally not lucky in finding rare parts ! :(

Not sure what version it has in it at the moment, how do I find out ?

I'll look on eBay for both 2008 and 2009 versions, does it read "backup versions" of the original dvd's ? ;-)

Rear parking sensors can be retrofitted - Audi do a kit which is a bit expensive....I would look for a rear bumper with the sensor holes on e-bay - I saw one on e-bay recently - went for £15.00. Might look for the rear bumper like you say on ebay. Would the pukka sensors not fit into the standard bumper if I just drilled the wholes into the current bumper ?

How do the rear parking sensors wire upto the inside of the car, i've never even seen an A4 with parking sensors fitted tbh, so how does it all work, doesn't it beep or something when reversing ? Does it somehow link into the Audi DIS too ?

The MFSW, what functions does it have ?

As for the B7 one at £6-700, that might have to wait too :(

I'm up for having the DIS fitted but not really ***** about the Cruise although reading what you said;

- Cruise Control will cost £240 supplied and fitted.

It sounds like they are somehow incorporated together, but whats the washer bottle got to do with it ? ;-)

I'm located at Jct18 of the M6 which I think is the most south of you two so how and where do we suggest that we get this done ?

That sounds like a nice car - I can't wait to see the pics! What colour?

Heres a sneak preview !!

Might leave that Mod for a while, we bought the car to be more practical as we are expecting a new arrival in November...... BUT as the car will be the Mrs daily driver until the kid(s) are old enough to climb in the car themselves, she's not the most careful driver so there is NO CHANCE she's havin them lush 19's on with her driving !!

I have also fitted rear door blinds to mine, it's quite easy really and a nice mod. Few pics HERE. I didn't even bother looking for oem door blinds in the right colour trim! Needle and haystack spring to mind, but you might be lucky!

Looks like a good mode that, not sure i'd have the bottle to drill into my doorcards like that though :( eek

Do you want OEM parking sensors? Richardesty in the B7 section has some good results with a hidden strip thats sits behind the bumper - nothing visible externally at all.

Wanted Factory Sensors TBH but will have a look in the B7 section for idea's/

Might just do that ;-)

Yeah, i'll hang fire with that one too

The car looks very nice  What is the extra badge at the back under the A4 one? A dealer one...?

Might look for the rear bumper like you say on ebay. Would the pukka sensors not fit into the standard bumper if I just drilled the wholes into the current bumper ?

Don't quote me on this, but I 'think' that the bumper will have the marks inside them where the sensors fit, so all you would need to drill is a correct size hold for the sensor (About as scary as drilling your door cards!) I think it is connected into the reverse light wire so 'powers up' when reverse is selected, and the alarm bit fits inside the rear boot are on the offside near the stereo amp somewhere. It's quite an easy mod I think, and one worth doing if your wife is driving .....?

I am not aware it links to the DIS, but I have been wrong before! Yes it just beeps, the beeps get quicker the closer you get to an object. I was quite scathing about them until I drove a car with them fitted .....

There used to be an installation guide I had, but the site has been offline now for ages.

Backup copy = Pirated copy of an original DVD....you pays your money and takes your chances.....

My Bluetooth is fully integrated into my RNS-e - fantastic !

Rear ANti Roll Bar - purchased from Vagparts (no longer around) dont think they are that expensive from Audi Main Dealers - costs around an hours labour to fit - alkl up cost me £100 beer vouchers.

that's my car in the first pic the wheels aren't that hard to keep clean, but then i do wax and seal mine all the time so they don't corrode and it makes them alot easier to clean.

The spec of your new car sounds great

RNS_E MAP Disk: Backup copy may work for a few hours and then fail - tried this by making a copy from my own original disk onto cheap Dual Layer DVD media - driving home after 2 hours and RNS-E indicated "Insert Navigation DVD!". If a back-up is made on Verbatim media then should work with no problem if written slowly to disk. If you get an Ebay disk and insert it and it says it's a software CD then they have not written it correctly as a DVD-ROM book type. The latest map software is out there if you know where to look and are prepared to wait 2-3 days to download it - then make sure you have the correct DVD writer and DVD media and that's it -pretty easy DIY upgrade!

Rear Parking Sensors:
Audi aftermarket kit, as mentioned above, utilises a standalone control unit and 4x sensors, signalled by connection to the reversing lights - I have it works a treat. Drill 4x 20mm holes in the bumper which is marked on the back of the bumper skin.

Audi factory fit requires a dedicated bumper skin enabling totally flush mount of the sensors. The sensors are long cylindrical units. The control unit is integrated into the CAN-BUS circuit of the car and I guess gets the reverse signal over this bus and requires to be set-up with VAG-COM.

Wow the registration is identical to mine (nearly)

I would like to get this cruise, DIS done ASAP

The washer bottle sensor is connected to the DIS I.E when the level get low you get a warning, although this option can be grounded so not needed..

We could met at a service station somewhere on the M6 (Bolton seems fair)

Hi Niknak

Yep...sounds good to me....the guy with my MFSW (shown in the picture below) will hopefully be doing his B7 MFSW swap over around 1st july...

Here is my future B6 MFSW fitted to his convertible.....

I'll stay away from the B6 MFSW tbh, Not keen on the 4 spoke, will stick with the 3 spoke until I can afford the B7 one

Well, dont larf - I paid just over £16k for my motor from York Audi 2.5 years ago..it only had 20K miles on it....its now got 52K on it....and considering the £7k (i hope) depreciation I have had to stomach I don't wann aspend that much more on it (other than keeping it in the condition its in now)....so sorta watching the £££££

Like Quattrojames, I am keeping all the old bits I have removed, and will be refitting them prior to selling my car in 2 odd years....and fitting the RNS-e, bluetooth, RS6's etc, etc into my next B7...

Your not on your own there mate.

I think I only want to drive Audi's from now on. I personally think the're better than BMW's, and a classier then VW's.

Apart from an Evo or a Scooby (hence the username, I've previously owned one) You buy them cars for a very different reason. My other car is a Mk4 Polo 16v '99 as I only drive 5 miles to work everyday so in thie climate, it makes sense to have one little runaround and one family car.....

I'll never change though, although as a "little runaround" I couldn't just settle for a 1.0 or a 1.4 Polo, its had to be a 16v, and since i've had it, its been modded, I just couldn't help myself.

It has;
280mm Front Discs with Corrado G60 Calipers
236mm Rear Discs with Corrado Calipers (swapped from rear drums)
Uprated Brake Master Cylinder to a 22.2mm
AP Coilovers (slammed)
and a BMC CDA Cold Air Feed Filter ;-)

Lol it must be a fun 5 miles! :racer:

not had a chance to read all in detail, but Gareth at Hazzydayz (vwcruise) is able to source and fit the B7 steering wheels, but they're NOT cheap....

Here's mine ;)
ixus90_feb09018.jpg

Until you get the full DIS done, console yourself with switching the RNS-e off... then back on and the satnav details, etc come up with road names, turn signals, distance to next junction, etc on the red-DIS... not the same as the toggle, but it beats just watching the "remaining range" number....

sc00by - your runabout sounds like my little roof down sunny-day runabout... see sig ;) 2 litre Golf cabriolet... only the 8v (biggest that they did), but bewefed up airflow, high lift cams, plus decent brakes and suspension make it a hoot!

edit: And yes, I'm sadly selling - only done about 500 miles in the last 4 months and struggling to justify keeping the little monster :( - I know the price is "optimistic" to say the least, but I need the car for the next 2 weeks... then I'll price it to actually sell it before it loses any more value.

So how and when did you do yours or did you get Hazzydayz to fit it for you ?

Looks MINT btw !

Is is possible to get one off a breakers or do you need any other ancillaries with it ?

If you can arrange 3 or more cars with the above work then we can waiver the call out fee and give you a 10% discount.
£328.50 per car.

Dayyyyym!? I'm very tempted. Will put me £328.50 further away from my 19's but that does sound like a damn good deal. I've wanted cruise control and DIS for aaaaages.

If we got more cars, we could maybe get an even bigger discount !! Sort of like a Group Buy ??????

Right, can you say that again in laymans terms so that I understand you fully ???

So Sat Nav doesn't have road names and turn signals, distance to next junction unless you get the full DIS done ??? Or are you saying that FULL DIS incorporates Sat Nav instructions on the display between the speedo and rev counter ???

I'm confused !!

It is a floor in the system, for example if you are in your car and driving, then you put in a postcode to the RNS-E and if you want the directions/information to be displayed on your dis you have to turn off the RNS-E then turn it back on again, then bingo the instructions are displayed on the DIS in front of you.

Hope that makes sense.
Ian

Shame there are only so many hours in a day. I reckon three is what he is prepared to do in one trip, in one day. I would imagine there is a lot of work involved, more than three may well have him working flat out for god knows how many hours straight.

...but then again, you don't know until you ask?

Scooby- Just e-mailed you as it said that you've choosen not to receive PM's.

Sc00by - I think the B7 steering wheel upgrade like mine just needs a B7 slip-ring, wiring loom, and the donor wheel and airbag.... plus Vag-com to get it all to be recognised.

I got HazzyDayz to do mine.

Apparently the 2nd hand B7 donor wheels are like hen's teeth and normally need new airbags, so mine was 100% new.... and I asked him NOT to fit the S-Line badge.... much more stealth :ninja:

At this moment in time Im running Genuine RS6's with no Issues really. I get slight (and I mean very Slight) on this Blue one but nothing on the Red one even though they are the same set up suspension wise but had Federals on, cheap and cheerful but last foooking ages!!!

Im running the RS6's on 235/35 Avon zz3 and I hate the tyres, pure ***** IMO, feels loose sometimes on the road when I have a mad moment.
Its having 4 wheel alignment though saturday so hopefully that'll sort things out. Oh and DEFO get the RS4 ARB mate, it makes a whole heap Better, I got one from mine last week and the corners feel sooooooo much tighter, only cost £74 for all the bits and thats from the Stealers!!!

I cant post any pics though because it will spoil my "...story so far..." thread in the next couple weeks.:)....you'll get to learn mate that Im a Picture whore and on that note, Ive included some shots of my old red one with the 19's....oh and my Blue One when I first got it! I aint shy!
