Anyone know what the going rate would be to have 4 wheels painted?. I'm wanting to get my wheels painted in an antracite (sp??!) or charcoal colour, anyone else think it'll look OK on a silver car?.

Black would be too dark but I'm feeling a nice metallic dark grey would look pretty good :)

Opinions for and against?

T

PS: The original finish on my wheels is a bit crap, paints rubbish as they're reps etc so want them looking their best.

We've had wheels refurb'd and painted for £25 per wheel. I think anthracite would look ok on silver.

a mate of mine has the new rs4's in black on his silver s3 looks good

Thats a good price where was that at ?
And what was the quality of the job like ?

Was a guy i knew who had a bodyshop local to me in Cornwall. Havent had anything done for about 12 months but i still think its what he charges.

Had a quote come back today for £322 all in for strip, paint, refit tyres and rebalance.

Sound any good?

I recently paid £270 for 4 genuine RSTT's to be fully stripped back and refurbed in BMW SS3 (similar to OE but slightly shinier :) ). Pic below, it's not close up but you get the idea:

I did drop the wheels and tyres off loose though i.e. the tyres were stilll on but I didn't leave the car. A place called The Wheel Specialist did them (http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/index.php), I chose them based on positive feedback and they did a cracking job. I'm sure they have a franchise in brum, in fact I think that branch is the original branch.

My quote was from the wheel specialists in Brum. I'll not be leaving the car up there, I'll just lob on my old wheels and drop the ones I want doing up there.

They do have a few nice finishes to be honest. I like the look of the black/smoke chrome on their website, could be nice to have a break from the norm.

I've seen lots of good reviews about them too. My mates just had his Clio wheels dont in a finish called 'steel' which lookes really nice, kind of grey but not too dark.

Oh right, you're probably in good hands then. The price is dependent on finish, but it's worth trying to knock them down, my initial quote was £325 but I played them off against another local company and they price matched.

I also considered black chrome but when they put a wheel up against the car it looked too dark, but it might work with silver. Did you mention your wheels were reps? I only ask as the guy asked me the same question. He said he wouldn't recommend refurbing reps as he had loads of trouble in the past with poor quality castings. He could be full of it but its worth asking the question?

I'm going to give them a buzz tomorrow and see if I can pop down and get things sorted out. The castings are fine on mine to be honest so I cant see it being a problem but who knows!.

I had my BBS powder coated steel grey on my silver Mk3 GTI...I like grey centred wheels on silver cars, although I still have a silver rim showing.

If the finish isn't perfect, why not get them powder coated instead of painted?
Harder wearing...easier to look after.
Roughly £40 per wheel to have them dipped, blasted and powder coated.

I'll have a chat with the people tomorrow and see what the best bet is. I'd prefer powder coating as they're less likely to get stonechip damage etc.

The silver rim makes a big difference IMO, it just helps to keep the rims looking their actual size. I went the same route on my GTI (sorry, I couldn't resist the shameless pic as i've just done them!)

Tom, who have you been to, my cousin knows someone in Brum as well, that maybe able to sort you out, apparently he does a very good job and can do many different finishes at a decent price.

Drop me a txt or PM and I will try getting the details for you tomorrow if you want.

If you could get the details mate that would be awesome. The place I've got a quote from are on the Tyburn Road, The Wheel Specialists...formerly known as Lab Tap or something I think.
