Are they the same units and the seller I posted just putting they’re bit on or is the aliexpress a cheaper less inferior version?

I really can’t answer that question. I’ve seen comments on here from people who say they are the exact same units with a big price attached, others say UAD design their own products and they’re all the better for it. Again, you have to decide who you believe.
No matter what unit you buy, you will be getting a the same basic unit with minor differences. I'm almost certain UAD did not design there own unit what would likely of happened is they would of approached an existing vendor that would of been happy to make certain UI and software changes based on their spec in exchange for minimum order quantities. QC would also be higher if the uits are being sold from a UK supplier, as it far to easy to send it back if its crap. This additional work from UAD, testing, packaging, decent instructions, VAT and everything else a UK based business needs to pay out for, will be the reason why the unit they sell is twice the price.
If that additional layer of support and warranty is worth the additional cost, it's entirely up to the buyer but there will be many that value it other wise UAD wouldn't have a product worth selling.

Not a problem though as I’d imagine you use the turn knob on the head unit?

Has anyone actually bought this one from aliexpress for the concert radio. I really want to get it, but i don’t trust the reviews and I wanna know realistically how it functions. I’d like to be at least 90% sure it’s going to work well before i commit to paying

im interested in these too pal, only thing putting me off them is no touch screen like the ebay ones!
Don’t let lack of touch screen put you off. In a B8, the screen is small and deeply recessed so it’s an awkward and arguably dangerous reach. It’s actually safer and easier to navigate using either the MMI rotary button or the steering wheel controls.
I’m not fussed about the touch screen tbh pal. It’s literally just which seller can u trust on Aliexpress as to whether the product will actually work. I’ve seen few people say it won’t work on newer iOS upgrades. All i want it to do is have Waze and to be able to stream music.

The only way to eliminate uncertainty and mistrust in AliExpress sellers is to accept the extra cost of sourcing your unit from Unique Auto Developments. I did that, and it worked for me.
So mine eventually arrived. Just getting all the bits together to fit it.

Not one thing came with mine. There are some wires I'm not sure about. Think they might be only used if you install a camera but not sure...

What radio do you have?
I bought a carlinkit retrofit from ebay for my concert. Worked a charm. The instructions weren’t the best but whenever I had a question they’d reply straight away with some pictures or a video.

this is closest install to yours . They’re all pretty similar tbh, just slight variations. Some of the plugs don’t need plugging into anything . Not entirely sure how to do the camera because I couldn’t be bothered installing it after finally getting it all done.

Front camera works by a time delay, after the car is put in reverse or the button pressed, it will then activate the front camera for a predifined amount of time after you take it out of reverse.
No idea what the 2 pin plug is for, the seller couldn't help either, it might be for light control, activating a day or night mode. I saw in another video a similar plug labelled 'light', didn't seem to mage a difference if connected or left.
Hdmi is an input if you wanted to plug in some sort of device to watch on a tiny low res screen.
The bare wires are for connecting cameras.
Let me know if yours correctly overlay the parking sensors.

Was allowing the hdmi was an input but for what I don't know. Think my screen may be a higher res than yours but not sure. Think my one should play dvds...

what buttons do you have. I have to hold setup or menu on mine to bring it up
try all the buttons till u find the one that works. I contacted my seller because i had difficulty figuring it out. But for non MMI it’s setup or menu hold
did u switch the decoder on the box ? for mine i had switch 4/6/8 codes to on. and all the rest off. contact your seller

I found I needed to have something plugged into the ami socket to be able to select it. The USB adapter worked but I found it needed a thumb drive with files on it before it could be selected, then I found it would be scrolling through the file list in the background whilst I was going through the device interface so in the end I swapped it for a 3.5mm ami lead, works spot on
