SQ5 So the wait begins...again!

Congratulations on your order. You are brave going for the red leather! I looked at it and decided to go safe, but ai secretly wish that I didn't ;) Great specification otherwise, did you manage to get a decent discount? I ordered my car 14 weeks ago and hope to get it in 8-9 weeks. Even if you get the car in September, you could still choose to put an 18 plate of your choice on it, but would cost you £400 and unless you planned to personalise the plate I'm not sure I'd bother.

Lots to read here as you start your wait.
Thanks for that..yes did get a discount, c12% which I thought was pretty good.

I just don’t like 6* plates, but for the sake of £400 I might have to live with that.

Yes, brave (interesting word and may have to to say that to my wife.....‘idot’ springs to her mind!) My thoughts are that once the two car seats are put in the back (which are black) this will tone it down a bit!

We test drive the car but didn’t mange to do any drives above 50mph as we live in town and only had 2 hrs.

Will send pictures when received..

Am I right in thinking that the cars are made in Mexico but then go to Germany to get completed..fianal touches and what else to the do in inglostat..

I have no idea what the JSON output even means!

Log into the Audi Website and pull up standard order status site. Then in another tab on the same browser, enter the below URL with your order number instead of all zeros:

https://www.audi.co.uk/myaudi-public-api/services/v1/orders/00000000

You will get a bunch of what looks like gibberish, but if you look carefully you will see your order status history, full specification and down towards the end of he text, your VIN.

Yep, it’s almost a relief when I get busy and distracted from checking!

There is indeed a VIN number - I’m guessing there’s nothing useful I can do with it at this stage...

Something Audi Connect related suggested, I've not found anything yet...

Well, further to my post last month, I now have confirmation that my build week in No.20 so I am expecting delivery mid June. This not only came as a shock (the original paperwork noted 4th September), but it has gone from order to delivery in 3 months...(rather than the 4-6 months previously quoted).

.....my thoughts are that Audi have accelerated all the SQ5 ahead of the September 2018 WLTP testing...has anyone else found their delivery times have suddenly been brought forward......otherwise I am at a loss as to why this is so quick..

Your explanations sounds spot on RE the WLTP deadline. Build week 20 is 14th May, assuming your car leaves the factory on 21st May you are looking at around a month to six weeks for it to get to Germany depending on shipping schedules. I’d say the start of July is a realistic guess for collection. Good result for you, are you still nervous about the Magma leather ;)

@Arch_SQ5 I’ve been looking at shipping schedules out of Veracruz and fear your car might have missed the last boat to leave Veracruz on April 6th (MIRACULOUS ACE due in Germany April 24th). As I don’t know the exact transit time it’s touch and go as your car left the factory 8 days before this ship left Mexico.

There have been no departures from Veracruz since April 6th and the next ship (ATHENS HIGHWAY) is current sitting outside port waiting for a wharf to clear for loading. I hope I’m wrong.

Many thanks...well..there was a recent review on a US SQ5 (video) and showed the wife as this was the first time I have seen the true colours of the Magma Red (rather than over exposed pictures) and have to say was pleasantly surprised..no where near as bright as I had expected..so agree..nervous a little but looking forward to something different..the wife noted that the new car seats for our children need to be black (the thought of more red was a little bit too much)...the two black car seats may tone down the red a little..

Well the tracker suggested it left the factory on the 29th of March so there's a small glimmer that it might have made that ship, but I'm thinking less likely. My dealer said it's still showing at in transit from Mexico their end with code 30 no additional information from what I can see.

Does anyone know how long these ships take to get to Germany, and indeed how frequent they are?

Schedule Import PDF on this page:

http://www.pwl.de/en/services/liner/roro

You need to grab it each week and then track the named ships on the standard ship tracking sites. ATHENS HIGHWAY has been in Veracruz since Saturday 14th being loaded. DALIAN HIGHWAY is sitting outside Veracruz waiting to be loaded next...

...I received a message from my dealer today and he’s confirmed my car is about to leave Germany so should be ready for collection in the next 2 weeks.

‘My Audi’ is suggesting it’s still in Mexico so more than a little behind!

Oh right... So my car could have left Germany even though it’s Status 38?

Never say never - this was an unprompted email from the dealer so might be worth prodding yours (although they’ll certainly let you know when it’s on it’s way as they’ll want it off their lot as quickly as possible).

I’m going to sit tight till my current PCP goes back (Friday 11th May) then I’ll bug my dealer every few days for status.

It’s a diesel Merc GLA220d. Because of the crash in 2nd hand diesel car values it is just about worth the balloon payment on the PCP so there is no equity in it. Even a Merc dealer said they would not be able to give me more than the final payment as trade in against another Merc.

It was low deposit and I always saw it as a lease, I think the sales guy was desperate for the sale 4 years back. Has been interesting owning a smaller Merc after my previous 2010 A5 Sportback SLine 2.0T. Glad to be coming back to an Audi!

Yes tracker for SQ5s appears borked. Mine should be at my dealer next week (currently at the dealer group ‘reception centre’). Tracker says that it’s still in Emden.

It is nice to know the car is close and ready when you are :)

Really please as my car is currently in Quality Control...

The bad news is the following was added to the bottom of the order screen..

We're really sorry, we are currently experiencing production and transit delays
for some Q5 models.

We are working with the highest priority to reduce the waiting times, but due to unforeseeable supply/production bottlenecks, the original production and transport schedule may not be achievable. Unfortunately, the delivery of your vehicle may therefore be delayed, in some rare cases, by up to 12 weeks longer than normal.

We apologise and deeply regret this delay. Please keep in close contact with your Audi Centre for the latest information about your specific order.

That note was on my screen from the day I ordered - I don’t think it’s relating to anything other than the 6months they’re taking from order to delivery.

I’m collecting my car tomorrow afternoon unless something goes wrong, I ordered in Feb, but the order slot shows December so that particular car is has taken 6 months.

Thanks..as I ordered a SQ5 and it was ordered in March..so I am hoping (still) for delivery mid June..My current car is to be sold privately at the end in May so don’t want to hire a car for too long!

I suspect that will very much depend on when your order slot was booked - if you were advised May you should get it but if you ordered a new slot in March and are hoping for May it might be a different story.

Thanks..no I was actually told a 4 September 2018 delivery..but as it was an SQ5 and Audi wanted to make sure it was delivered before the September new omissions deadline it was brought forward to delivery mid June with production in w/c 14 May..so fingers crossed

It's arrived! - no time to take any pictures but I'm sure you all know what a grey SQ5 with a pano roof looks like!

Went smooth at the dealership, albeit al little unceremonious - it was literally on the lot, and I was given the keys and essentially told to get on with it within 15mins of arriving - no demo [I asked for one on the park assist and was told to read the manual and go to a quiet carpark!, no bunch of flowers or any other jazz I was expecting - didn't even get a tank of fuel [which I didn't notice until I'd got home].

Interestingly I didn't ask about break-in, but his parting words were, there is no official break in for these engines so don't worry if you redline it - it will help loosen it up - I'm pretty confident that's not Audi's official stance!

It drives fantastic, I'll update more next week after I've had a chance to set it up and test it properly.

Great to hear and look forward to how the car performs.

I think i’ll Be treated the same but as there is a huge discount think I would expect the same.

Just as an aside, was a half tank of petrol specified..

Break in guidelines from the manual. 0-600 miles treat the accelerator pedal like there is an egg under it and don’t go above 2/3 max RPM. Manual say ramp up 600-1000 which I guess means don’t go full throttle till you hit 1000 miles.

1f5f5a0027fbb0b2942c09cce798714e.jpg

I remember a Mazda 6 MPs (Mazdaspeed 6 in the USA) has running in oil that was changed after 1500 miles. I thought it was a scam

Was your car a lease or a purchase? If it was a purchase, I’d expect a bit of a handover! Half a tank of fuel is the normal amount I’ve seen when picking up a car.

Great to hear it drives well, tell us more when you have put some miles on it!

Yeah I’ve read the above before - I’m being gentle-ish with it. It’s on a PCP but I’d still expect some handover on a 60k vehicle.

It also had 27miles on the clock which felt like a lot.

In a nutshell I’m really enjoying the car. It’s so much bigger than I remember on test, but I’m stepping up form an S1 so it’s going to be different.

The sound system is excellent, but the exhaust in sport mode sounds too good to have it on. I made good use of the pano roof yesterday, and whilst I’ve got to idea if it’s buffers in the back, it did ruffle my hair dramatically!

Niggles so far:

The MMI screen hasn’t come on a couple of times and I’ve had to lock and unlock the car and ignition sequence to get it to come on.

Audi connect seems clunky, I need to tell it to connect every time, and google maps has only worked once, the rest of the time has been the standard maps - I think this is probably something I need to play with.

The central locking wouldn’t lock last night after I unlocked it to grab something - I had to toggle the ignition on and off before it would lock.

My dealer has added the 4 rings puddle lights - can’t decide if they’re cool or chavvy - I suspect the latter but I’m not swapping them back. (The plain ones are in the glove box in a box).

I need to sort GAP insurance, normal insurance some additional security and a faraday bag today!

J

Congratulations on your new Q5!

For GAP Insurance, I've went with ALA Insurance, and got a great deal for their replacement vehicle plus policy, as they matched the Total Loss Gap 123 quote, and then discounted this by a further 20%.....so well pleased!!
