Cruise control installation guide

Guys, I think that I found the cause.
VCDS sees stalk position and pressings on Steering Wheel Electronics module, but doesn't see on Engine module (only sees if stalk is in "on" or "off" position, but not tracks set/acc/deacc and other functions it should).
I guess wire is needed in this case.

Can somebody provide me wiring diagram of 3.0TDI ECU, where wire must go on ECU and on Steering Wheel control module? thanks

Installing my cruise stalk and the DIS stalk tomorrow, can anyone clarify what it is exactly I do to get rid of the window washer fluid error ? And where exactly it's found

Many thanks

Very easy..
Since you're gonna have the steering wheel off anyway remove the trim between the buttons on the dash and there's a bolt on each side.. Undo them and the clock comes out towards you. On the back of it there's 2 plugs. 1 green 1 blue.
Remove the one blue one on the left side and you can see the pin one is empty. That's for the washer fluid level.
Insert the repair wire there and if you choose to ground it you can use the clock bolt when putting it together and the error won't show..
But since you're doing it I suggest you do it right and connect the sensor..
It's a bit more work to run the wires and connect the sensor but at least you don't have to guess anymore whether you need to refill or not..
I've done it and I think it's well worth the time.
Hope it clarifies what you have to do and good luck..

Whats all needed to install the sensor? Is it just the sensor or are any plugs etc needed.

You can get a sensor and the plug from ebay remove the passenger side wheel and wheel arch liner and you do need to remove the windscreen washer fluid reservoir and remove the grommet and put the sensor and run the wires behind the stereo and gloves box ti the sensor..
Connect the wire to one side of the plug and the other attach it to a screw to ground it and put everything back together and it'll warn you when your washer fluid is low.

Has anyone ever had the problem of the car going into safe mode after putting the stalk in ?

When initially putting in it I ruined the original indicator/headlight stalk.

Not knowing how to remove this from the backing part I put the new backing part along with the new stalks (lights, wiper and cruise) i then built it back up with the original parts but when I went to start it it's come up safe on the odometer.

No photos sorry , also noticed when the ignition is on (engine not running ) that the wipers I've somehow lost the ability to adjust the speed of them with the little switch on the stalk.

Is this because it's a new stalk and needs activating?

It works as normal if I put the old non trip computer wiper stalk in

Probably a faulty stalk then..
Is shouldn't need activating because the wiper function its a basic operation and its what it supposed to do.
I'd say you need a new stalk. When I changed mine worked first time with no issues..

I'll look into it after I get the car driving again, need to get someone put with a computer to both take the car outta safe mode and then activate the cruise.

Had I of known it was going to be this hassle I wouldn't of bothered I stalling it !

Shouldn't have been like that..
I done it first time on my own and didn't have any problems with it..

I think it's because I used the backing panel that the stalks plug into from the car that the parts came from as when I first put it in I managed to disturb the headlight stalk causing it to fall apart.

So when the car was started it didn't recognize this new part putting it into safe mode.

Still stays in safe mode when the original one is put in

I swapped that module but it only showed a abs error which I then coded it to clear it..
And to separate the module from the stalk you'll need a T8 screwdriver..
Hope you sort this out quickly

Right so basically it was dark when I done this and I was fed up after having to replace the turbo on the car but I had forgotten to plug the wire for the ignition barrel back in...

As it's out of the way an hidden from view as such when doing this I'd forgotten all about it so came home today and in the day light I realised the problem all good now chaps just need it activated!!

Guys i've got the lower cowling off and looking to fit the stalk now, cant see how I get it on. Can someone give me some detail on how to fit it exactly? Do I need to lower the existing stalk a bit? Pictures on the first page seem to have stopped working...

From memory mate there is a bolt undernaeth the lower cowling, one single one in the middle, i had the same problem. when you undo this it lets it move back and is easy to get the new on one. Sorry i dont have pics

Good luck

I don't think you can swap it without removing the steering wheel because it has a long T8 screw olding it to the module..

Really struggling still, just seems like the indicator stalk is somehow stopping it from seating properly. There must be another screw somewhere that frees up space but I'm out of ideas.

With use of a chisel for leverage and a hammer it's now seated and in. That was tough!

Free up all the screws and once the module comes out so will the stalk..
All the stalks but the cruise control one have 2 screws on them..

Thanks i think its all and working now, the cowling was a pain to line back up and isn't in properly yet but I've had to leave it as the Mrs needs a lift. Also found one of two T8 screws that holds top and bottom cowling together has snapped off and left a tiny piece still left screwed in the top part, that's gonna be a pain to get out! In vcds for some reason it won't find the engine module, maybe bad vcds version or bad cable but I've activated in the steering wheel section. I tested it in vcds and could see the buttons working. Not sure if that means it's all good or whether i still need the engine module code change.. gonna drive it in a bit so will see what happens.

There's 2 tabs at the back of the top cowling that need to slide under the bottom cowling.
Then just screw them back together..
Do this and they line up nicely..

Only got around to getting things activated today. The cruise is working as it should but the trip computer isn't, it's activated on the vcds just not working in the car.

Was told that I need a different module that the stalks plug into has anyone heard of this before ?

If it coded for cruise it'll code for trip computer..
Probably made a wrong turn somewhere along the way.
Recheck everything and if necessary clear everything and start the coding from the beginning.

So definitely no different module required ? Literally just take old stalk out and put new one in then recode ?

100%.
Just something wrong with coding..
Because even the base model module accepts trip computer..
I had it on mine before I changed the module to have cruise control..

Okay thanks, I'll try another stalk incase the buttons on the one I've installed isn't working, I got another as the first one the wiper sensitivity switch wasn't working.

Edit

Just realised that if it was coded correctly and working then it would bring the washer fluid error up on the dash so the fact it's not doing this would indicate a coding error ?

What dyou mean by that ?

Also just edited my post before you replied incase you haven't seen it.

Right.. Ok.. Just seen it now..
That's an indicator too..
But when you have it coded the cluster will either show number 1 or number 2. Short term memory and long term memory..

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

I mean that..
See that 1 on the corner? Means you have selected short term memory. If you code it to have long term memory id you press reset it'll show 2 and displays your figures since you enable the trip computer..
