Windscreen washers

Yeah you're maybe right. Will have to go and check mine. Don't know why I am imagining three lol

There are three 'pistols' on each side - a right PITA to adjust as you really need the bonnet open to get to them. Another reason that the fan jet should be an improvement.

The people that know the roads are working that out. Evo triangle was the first idea but people say there are loads of people and police about on weekend.

I'll be wherever they decide then heading over to Bethesda for the zipline

Yeah. Some nice twisty bits around that area.....But it does get spoilt by the vast amounts of tourists from over the border clogging up our roads.... :whistle2:...lol...
On a more serious note why don't you arrange a track day on Anglesey Circuit on the island?
It will allow you to stretch the legs on your car legally..lol
https://www.angleseycircuit.com/
It's the track Fifth Gear use to use.:racer:
I was there yesterday watching my younger brother racing his 106 gti.
It only cost about £160 for the day with use of a garage...I think he arranged it with Javeline trackdays?

He has been trying to get me to use my car ......Ain't got the b*ll*cks I'm afraid...lol:scared2:

Maybe that's where my confusion was coming in. Yeah I need to adjust mine actually, they're rather high and I don't want to be "that guy" lol

Anyone know exactly what tool is required to adjust the fan type jet ? Looks like a small torx rather than an Allen key.

In the past I've always adjusted mine with a pin.

In the ElsaWin workshop manual it says "Commercially available adjusting tool (e.g. adjusting tool -T10127-) or suitable needle"

The manual uses a couple of pages to show the exact pattern and hit points for each of the six jets

That's the jets not the fan type

According to this it's a T10  :-

Ah yes, LHG. He's quite the interesting guy. He's moved on from VW to the newest Subaru WRX and it's frustrating watching him (or any WRX owners for that matter of fact) go through countless of tunes every time a piece of hardware was added (intake, dp, etc.). Tuning VW/Audi's is exceedingly easier. I owned one myself for 6 months and gladly came back to VAG.

As I'd imagine that these 5M0 jets arrive at the factory preset to suit the Golf I found that they required one full turn anticlockwise to hit the screen in what I felt was an acceptable point :-

Rob2k68,
So we are all waiting for your valued opinion!! Were they worth ordering and are they better than the stock ones?

Looking at the A5/6 ones, they seem to be getting some negative comments so I was not going to bother but thought I would wait for your feedback on these ones. :respekt:

Right ...... LoL

Firstly I think it very much depends on what you're used to.

On my previous car I made the same change to fan jets so got used to them and saw it as a backward step when buying the Audi going back to the pistol jets although I've lived with them for two years so only a minor gripe.

Pros for the fan jets :-

Will use less water so longer intervals between bottle fills.
Far easier to adjust.
Nice even coverage.
Less water and better targeting means no excess water to run across your side windows.

Cons :-

Can't be set to squirt the car that's too close behind you!

Thanks Rob,
That's good enough for me! least I will be able to see the adjuster which is more than I have been able to do when trying to get a needle into the pistol jet to adjust.

Haha I thought I was the only one that uses that as a deterrent. But seriously, I live in a region that's high desert and seldom use spray jets so I'm on the fence on this mod. I will say I was surprised to see the pistol sprays the first time they came on. I've been used to the fan sprayers from previous VWs I've owned.

LoL I know what you mean I wasn't sure whether to do it or not. I'm self employed so tend to loose small items like this in the company itenary which helps a lot - could have quite a decent night out for 50 bangers especially given my very poor resistance to alcohol !!!!!!

Totally agree, they las tno time at all at this time of year. It would be even worse if I had no control over when the headlamp washers activated like my last few cars though. Something Audi has improved hurrah!

How do you do this please? I'm fed up of getting my clean car ruined by the headlight washers :( I often have to pull over to turn the lights off, then clean the screen and go again.. depending on how recently the car was cleaned, nightmare.

These are the 8V mist type, the heated version is like £20 per set over here.

It can be done using VCDS. Default is that on the 8th activation of the windscreen washers the headlamp washers will fire (as long as headlamps are on). I've changed mine to 16 and you can also specify the time that the pump is active so the amount of water that will be dispensed. Set to zero of course deactivates them.

This was the same on the Golf R: First pull of washers did the lights as well, then every 10 pulls.
I might be wrong but in the FL S3 if you give just a quick pull (1/4 of a second) on the washer jets the headlight washers aren't activated. The definitely aren't activated on the first pull.
If you give a longer pull (2 seconds) the lights are cleaned as well.

I've been watching this one for a while and finaly got round to ordering the A6 heated fan jets which were listed on here. It was a simple job to replace the standard 3 hole version on my FL S3 and for £22 for me a no brainer.

Nice! Think you're the first person to actually go for it and confirm they fit. I think I might just get a set

I'd share a video if I could figure out how, but these are a combination of mist plus 3 focus jets on each washer.

So is it just the PFL that doesn't have fan jets or does the FL not have them either?

Got them on the R32 and much prefer them to jets so will definitely change them if needs be.

Just for completeness... my PFL also has standard 3 jet... So yeah seems all A3/S3 :(

Can either @redsep or @Rob2k68 confirm if the focus jets (on the mist jets) also get adjusted when you move the adjustment screw? What specifically does that screw adjust?

Thanks!

This is an interesting thread for me!

I have HUGE washer abusing tendencies! Can't help but clean my windscreen multiple times per journey, even if to everyone else in the car it looks spotless!

I've always had the standard jets on my cars rather than the mist, for the most part which do you guys prefer.... jets or mist?

If those A6 mist wash jets are a simple fit and work on the FL S3 I can see myself grabbing a set! Any feedback would be appreciated!

I went from jet to mist on my Focus ST and thought they were 100 times better. The fact that these are a mix of mist and jet somewhat puts me off, but still I guess you get the best of both worlds then

The Golf/Seat ones I fitted 5M0 prefix are fan only - see pic on post #56. The adjuster sets the height of where the fan of water hits the screen.

Ahh right, that's the decision to make then haha... £60 vs £22 for full fan vs 50/50 fan-jet jobbies :D ha

They do. The same. The hybrid ones are better. All the vids you are seeing are stationery. I have had all 3 types
