Picked the car up on 10th December from Vindis Audi Northampton. :s4addict:

So my first thoughts...

Well, let's start with the dealer experience.

Arrived on an absolutely horrid morning, parked up and emptied the car of all the baby paraphernalia. Went in, shown to a seat; interestingly next to an S4. I believe it was the one the dealer had ordered in case mine was delayed (it looked pretty much like the same spec as mine).

Taken up to the waiting area and given drinks while we went through the final paperwork. Asked about gap and challenged the dealer to match the ALA quote I had. I was quite surprised when they did. So sorted the paperwork for that.

I wanted a couple of accessories and the dealer price matched the load liner I wanted and threw in a set of all weather mats and the obligatory USB cable. So was happy with that.

They also gave us vouchers for a photo shoot and set of photos which was a nice touch, particularly as we have a little one now so we'll be making use of it in the New Year.

All that sorted, taken to a delivery bay. There was a white S3 in one and my S4 in the other. S3 wasn't covered but the S4 was all under wraps.

Salesman did the unveiling and :sign wow:

First impression the car looked stunning, spent time going around the car looking at the paintwork at every different angle not a swirl in sight.

Navarra just seems to have a real depth and richness to it and for me makes a nice change from the Sepang blue of my S3.

Car was nice and clean, a couple of finger prints but these were soon wiped carefully away. Chrome handles go well with the exterior trim. Pleased with the blue/chrome combo.

Checked the wheels

and onto the interior,

Everything was just as I expected it. Car was fitted with Hankook evo s1's. Never had Hankook's before so I'm going to be interested to see how they compare to the Contis I've been used too. The review on the M4 seemed pretty good so happy to give them a try.

Although I know the S3 well I let them take me through all of the menus and systems to see how they all work.

First time I'd properly seen the virtual cockpit and really glad I went for this option. Having chosen the grey wasn't quite sure what to expect having looked at it quickly when I ordered, but really pleased with the combination of aluminium trim. Interior lighting pack is a nice touch and adds a nice ambiance to the cabin. Had a look at Android Auto.

All that sorted it was time to head home. So starting it up. Salesman had told me he thought this was probably the best sounding Audi S car to date. So pressed the start and I wasn't disappointed. It's got quite a growl certainly an improvement on the S3 as far as I was concerned.

With a delivery mileage of 23 I set off on home, good response from the throttle and clean gear changes, perhaps not quite as sharp as the S-tronic I'd been used to but the gear change seemed just as quick and if anything smoother. Took it steady coming home but a quick breath on the throttle and you're soon shooting along. It'll be interesting to see what it's like when I've got a few miles under my belt and properly give it the beans. Oh and the noise - wife loved it too.

Having stuck with the standard suspension, I was very pleased with the ride, you could feel what the road was doing under you and none of the excessive rebound that I'd become used to in the S3. I think it'll be just right when you want to push on. Steering has the typical feel of most electronic systems but seems accurate, weight is not too bad, it seemed somewhere between comfort and dynamic on my S3 - again be interesting to see how it's set up when pushing on.

Tried a couple of tunes through google play. I'm no audiophile, but it sounded great to me. A quick tweak of bass and treble and adjusted the balance and had something that I was pleased with. The system will no doubt settle down as it beds in but happy with it, having been worried I should have added the B&O; but so far no regrets, it was plenty loud enough for me.

I'll need to have a good look at systems and settings, but as Christmas is coming up there's going to be plenty of time for that. One thing I didn't see was the beep for locking and unlocking. I'll start reading through the manual but happy to be pointed in the right direction.

Oh and the seats... nearly forgot to mention them. Just so much to take in. These have to be the most adjustable seats I have ever had. I'll no doubt need to spend more time adjusting them during my long drive to Portsmouth, but initial comfort was very good.

The massage function is nice, wife was really sold. The seat hold is adjustable, the side bits can be adjusted to grip you more or less as you wish, and the lumber support seems to be far more adjustable than on the S3. Certainly something I'll be having a good play with.

I also think you can sit a lot lower in the S4 than I could in the S3, well it certainly seems that way. The contrast on the grey stitching looks good too.

No issues with the technology either, android auto easy to set up, and audi connect worked first time.

A longer run out planned for the 11th down to Portsmouth.

So after a decent drive what did I think.

Well the noise is great especially in dynamic. Ride on the standard suspension is great. Not too soft not too firm. The car is deceivingly quick. You don’t realise what speed you're doing until you glance at the speedo. I had a couple of occurrences today where I had to really keep myself in check. The S3 seemed more aggressive somehow in the way it delivered the speed. The S4 seems some how more grown-up, understated fast I suppose.

Happy with the steering weight in both comfort and dynamic.

Need to have a bit more of a play with the stereo, only listened to a few tracks on the way out. Need to play a little more with the balance. Happy too with the quality of the sound though and still not disappointed having not optioned the B&O.

Coming back at night the interior lighting is really great. Cabin is a lovely place to be. Seats are really comfortable, I only adjusted the seat once and did the round trip in complete comfort. Wife is loving the massage functions.

Light-up sills are a nice touch.

Virtual cockpit is also fab, certainly need to have a bit more of a play with its settings and views.

The matrix lights were simply stunning. Much better than the led options I went for on the PFL S3.

Got 26.6 mpg going down and 29.9mpg coming back but then traffic was a lot heavier so much more time just cruising. For a first decent run though I was pleasantly surprised. Out and back was all main roads and dual carriageways. Hopefully mid 30's will be possible when it's loosened up.

Off to be detailed on 19th December so more photos to follow then.

@Brasso - Thanks for sharing! Have just submitted order for S4 Avant and tweaking my options a little bit. Ditching dynamic steering for the trick diff. Currently have a 2015 S5 and absolutely do not like the dynamic steering option - assuming that is what makes it handle so terribly on the motorway :)

Coding session today with @DJAlix, thank you very much for your help.

- Lock double chirp turned on
- Unlock single chirp turned on
- VIM activated,
- Adjusted boot opening time on key press
- DRL in MMI &
- Distance control for ACC in MMI.

Also the first person from the forum I've met in person. It was a real pleasure to meet you and chat about coding and cars, and it was certainly interesting to see VCP in action.

Shall have to add that to my Santa list I think.

Is this hard to do? Also...Audi connect app. The servicing and fuel status of the car. Is it not feature of the app in the U.K.?

No really easy to add the poi's. Not seen anything on servicing or fuel in the app.

You have the choice of both double and single chirp for both lock and unlock on the B9. I like the double chirp on closing. I'm normally in a trance like state getting the early train to work so leaving the car at the station it's a good reminder I've locked it.

As our local police said, it is only a small number of cars being affected by key jammers and in certain areas such as services. If you have advanced key or folding mirrors then you will know if the car is locked or not anyway...

I know just what you mean but it's going to be a lot easier for me to keep on top of now - well hopefully.

Yes, I'm really enjoying it. On dryer roads today the grip is excellent and the suspension setup is just right.

I've listened to very little music/ radio since I've had it compared to my S3. I'm loving the sound of the exhaust.

The wait will quickly pass. Mine did at any rate.

That's good then because a lot of the YouTube reviews I've watched say it lacks the sound compared to the old s4, any options that you've got that your really glad you got ? I didn't pick many as thought it had a lot as standard, now panicking that I should of haha

Options is always a difficult call, this was actually the first car I have ordered where I haven't changed anything since the initial order. I'm normally a nightmare adding things in and changing my mind.

I love my choice of 19"s, but also really like the other RS 19"s on offer and will consider a set for winter tires if I go down that route. VC was a must as was Matrix lights, if I could have had only one option it would have been matrix lights.

The ACC is always good for me as having had it on my S3 I would have missed it. I also like the speed camera recognition.

Nath. Go onto the ordered thread and post up your spec. Everyone will be interested to see what you've gone for.
You will not be disappointed whatever you have chosen.

Yer well I've leased this one usually I buy new but I get bored after owning them two years so going to give leasing a go :) so I don't lose a chunk every time I swap haha so because I've leased I've held back on a lot of options.

Well after the coding session on Sunday I've pushed the button and ordered VCP from the UK distributor, let's see if UPS can manage to get it here this week.
