Going to buy some winter tyres and just wondered if 225 40 18 tyres will fit my s-line alloys which had 245 40 18 on?

You could fit a 225 tyre on an S-line rim . The problem is the thinner tyre is smaller, using a tyre size calculator
http://www.etyres.co.uk/how-to-change-your-tyre-size/
The difference in the diameter is 16mm so the car will sit about 10mm lower and the speedo will be reading about 2.5-3% out.
The Nokian WR A3 is a great tyre in 225 /40 /18 size they are £93.50 each

In the 245/40/18 size they are £102.89 ,
I use the A3 on my car and they are very good. I have some 17 inch SE rims with 225/50/17 tyres on for winter.

Karl.

Cheers Karl, I was only looking at the 225 to save a few quid. Not to fussed about change in speedo reading. Drop might be an issue though.

Good to see another convert to tyreleader! I have been using them for a couple of years and get all my tyres from them including my motorcycle. Their prices cannot be beaten!

I would also recommend a used set of SE wheels. The taller sidewall gives more flex so better grip.

Stick with OEM sizes as per the door sticker, you will not have any insurance issues then.

Also thinking of getting winter rubber for mine via tyreleader. Any tips for then choosing the best fitter for getting the ratio of cost / alloy damage risk right?
