is your mates miltek resonated or non resonated? if resonated it wont sound that much different. I would go for a pipewerx mate, you wont get much if any performance gain from a cat back so best to go 3" downpipe, de-cat or sports cat and cat back :) give pipewerx a ring when i rang to discuss my options they were really helpful!

Theres a guy on here doing a BT build and i think He had a supersprint and a miltek and was in 2 minds about what one to put on. I think it was a guy called jim s3, probly worth asking him if hes selling one?

Get a custom one made for someone like Longlife Exhausts, you can choose how loud and a choice of tailpipes and the make it to fit your car so you dont have to install it yourself, and they were cheaper for me too lol

I bought a Milltek non-res and It wasn't loud enough so I cut open the backbox and removed the stuffing until it was loud enough. The problem was that although it sounded great from inside the car outside it was mega-loud, you'd be surprised how sound deadened these cars are. Long-and short and after a few complaints from my house-mates as I kept waking them up leaving for my night shifts I ended up putting some sound proofing back into the exhaust to more acceptable levels. I just had to accept that it sounds awesome from outside but nothing special inside. :)

I have just got a resonated Milltek, if its too quiet can i convert it into a non-res? Do i just chop out the section which i am guessing is a resonator box?? Or would i just have to cut wodding out the back box?

I'm after a milltek non resonated iv hurd one and they sound great

I've got the resonated milltek on mine as they didn't do a non-resonated version back in 2004. I'm happy with it.
Remember Milltek give you a lifetime warranty if you're the original purchaser (useful if you keep your cars for a long time like I do).

the last thing I would want on my S3 is a booming loud exhaust

why not add a whistle to the tail pipes while your at it lol

I would never want a booming loud exhaust but whats the point in getting a new exhuast with no performance gains that sounds the same as the oem?! lol I just wanted to know if i can tune it to my own liking.

Just had a a Milltek cat back non resonated fitted to my S3 a couple of weeks ago and to be honest from within the car you would be hard pushed to tell the difference in sound levels. I was told that as the carbon builds up a little in time that the exhaust will be slightly louder. Even with the windows wound down it is by no means a loud exhaust system.
I've not heard the exhaust from a pedestrians point of view.
Just keep an eye on the joint to the cat pipes mine did not seal that great to start with with the Milltek joiner.
Andy

If it is the best exhaust I do not know, but it does look nice and shiny from the rear of the car
