Forgot to say Mark, that looks cracking! Love the black rings on the front, I would change but I think the chrome looks good against the blue, Daytona carries it off very well.

Just finished raising the rear coilovers up to clear the larger 245/35/20 tires as the previous didn't have enough sidewall #bentrims. Plastidipped with gold metalizer as well for some upcoming 2018 change. Now just taking some pictures here in Monterey for my short Christmas break.

I unplugged my exhaust valves today. Can’t really hear ANY difference at all from 1-3k revs. And the sound above 3k is the same too. Cars only done 1400 miles. Hopefully louder when more miles on it!

Also gave the car a very much needed wash!

Did you remember to put the car in dynamic before unplugging the valves?

Above 3k it should sound the same as being in dynamic mode above 3k prior to unplugging them as all 4 valves would be open at this point anyway.

I notice quite a difference between 1-3k now, in any drive select mode. As Lehn said, were you in dynamic mode prior to unplugging? And also if you turn the car on in dynamic mode, it won't actually be in dynamic so you will need to toggle round to it again.

Merry Christmas all :)

When I started the car up I put it into Dynamic, not 100% if I shifted into S though? (Will that affect it?)

Another thing is when I start the car now I can feel exhaust gas from all four pipes, which means all valves open yes?

If you started up and didn't reselect dynamic then it would not have been in dynamic. If you toggled round all the driving modes and selected dynamic again then it would have selected S for you so this would have been right. Yes you should be able to feel from all four pipes in all modes.

I started it up and definitely put into Dynamic before unplugging, and can now feel all four exhaust pipes releasing gas. But sound wise I have found no difference whatsoever. No farts when changing gears unless its over 3k revs, which is same as when plugged in.

Quick update. I can now definitely hear a difference with the valves unplugged! Car is
Now farting when changing gears at 2k revs, not as loud as at 3k but it’s there. Also downshifts it crackles more at lower revs now. Now just want it to be slightly louder!

Not an A3 but had this Q3 2.0 TFSI S-Line on hire for a week over Crimbo. F*** me! Coming from my 1.6tdi I was so impressed with the engine. Sounds really nice in Sport/Dynamic mode and pulls really well. Wasn't completely won over the performance but I guess that engine in the A3 is better as it the car will be lighter. The S-tronic gearbox was superb. Made me realise how much I miss it. I had the DSG version in a 2010 Scirocco, vowed then to never go back to a manual but my current A3 was a good bargain so had to go for a manual. Having said this, the 2010 DSG & this 2017 S-tronic didn't seem far off in performance which is strange. Maybe side by side I might have seen a bigger difference but I was surprised that some negative points still exist and haven't been ironed out.
Q3 is a nice car and made my 2014 A3 feel old. The Zenon/LED lights & beam assist are amazing, worked seamlessly. Q3 DIS is pants as is the interior. Dated and boring. MMI is rubbish, knobs don't work and feel bad quality.. If the Q3 had an A3 interior then I would seriously consider it. maybe when its replaced by the new model in 2019 it ill be a more stylish approach & not just a bodge job interior to save money.

I like the Q3 apart from the inside as you mentioned. I'm sure the new one is out some time this year, which should fix the interior problem!

Fitted a Turbo Technics intake hose (thanks @RO65ERS).

I also took the liberty of servicing my DV+ as it was one of the first mods I done when I bought the car. I wasn’t surprised to find the piston was dry, so gave it a good dollop of oil. I was surprised however at evidence of wear on the sides...pics below.

Any thoughts on this? Just wear from running dry or something more going on?

I was quoted £1000 yesterday for the oh-so-common Haldex Pump Repair Kit, oil & labour from a local Audi dealership (sadly I'm just outside of warranty).

Needless to say I ran for the hills at such an absurd quote, 4 hours labour?!?! Shocking to say the least.

Have got it booked in for £300 all-inclusive later today at a VAG Specialist, wish me luck!

Never come across this before on here, what was the issue that’s caused the need for a new pump? Symptoms etc?

Good luck anyway!

Lots of traction control kicking in (even on bone dry surface, with hardly much boost), car essentially running 2WD and not engaging the rear wheels at all. Likely no warning lights will show, but VCDS (or similar) should hopefully point in the direction of the Haldex Pump.

The repair went swimmingly, despite the greasy Manchester roads, I haven't seen the traction light come on once today and that's with a heavy foot (a cheeky launch here or there to make sure).

All is back to normal :)

Yer a bit critical of its interior yeah it's MMI is slightly old tech by Audi's standards but comparing it with other cars in its class like Renault /Nissan /Honda it's still better and the interior doesn't stop Audi selling them by the bucket load, l see more Q3"s on the roads than A3"s its still a very very desirable car for a lot of people and it looks stunning in white, yeah there will be a replacement soon as you state but a very expensive one at that, there's some cracking deals to be had on the current model

Totally agree with this... they drive great, just the right size for a small family, you can park one in the high street or go away for a week with ease. Not too big and not too small. The boot and interior space is only marginally smaller than a Q5, but it has a much smaller footprint for parking. The 2.o 180bhp petrol unit is far more sprightly than the numbers would suggest and reasonable frugal. And thats even conparing it with my S3. Yes the MMi is slighttly older, but its also very functional and is no where near as bad as I expected it to be on inital viewing. We have everything we need, bluetooth phone tethering, decent music system and a decent satnav.

A year ago we looked at a wide range of new petrol small SUV cars, from Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Mini, Nissan, Toyota etc. They all had pro and cons, the tech on the Japanese cars for the money was excellent. Ie 3D maps, 360 cameras, electric everthing and some very clever folding interiors. But we struggled to find a decent petrol car, dealers really were all pushing diesels and the japanese cars all had tiny petrol units, which although performed ok with 1 person in would struggle fully loaded and would struggle when getting up to speed.

Compared to the competition from a petrol engined perspective, only the BMW X1 has a similar amount of power and ran the Q3 very close.

It was infact my top choice ( I know I shouldnt say that on an Audi forum !), but the wife couldnt get on with the BMW sport seats and I hated the normal ones. The Ford Kuga was a good size, but the Ecoboost petrol was a massive dissapointment, especially when coupled with an Autobox when compared to the small units in cars like the Fiesta and Focus. So the Q3 won through and we could not be happier with it.

Even now thw wife is constantly still making comments like ‘ I love my car’ ... and I have never heard her say that before !
