Water leak in boot battery dead

Hi All,

I've had battery charge problems in the past with my 2011 B8. I've never been able to get to the bottom of it. This morning my wife was about to go to work and the battery was dead again. A little while ago I noticed some heavy corrosion within the boot area but could never understand why it was happening. This morning whilst about to get the jump leads out the boot I saw that there was water in the bottom boot tray area around the battery and also in the right hand side (drivers side) compartment where there is some kind of module, fuses and 2 relays. I am going to dry everything out tomorrow and recharge the battery using a charger. My question is...Where is this water coming from? Possibly a seal gone somewhere and also from an electrical point of view could this water leak be causing a short or bridging a 12v connection somewhere enough to drain the battery?? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Do you have a sunroof?
Usually blocked rear sunroof drains and water spills into the rear side compartments.

No, no sunroof. Going to check it tomorrow once the battery is charged. Going to take out all the liner in the boot and see where its coming from

Is this a saloon? I remember reading a thread that water was entering via the rear light cluster as the foam gasket was goosed.

Water leaks are a PITA to find.
Get everything out and liberally sprinkle with talcum powder. It will give you an idea of where it's coming from.

I've felt the air vents in the back where the bumper is and theyre soaking. I reckon water is getting in from there whilst driving. Gonna take the bumper off tomorrow and see whats going on with these vents

Did you find the leak? I've got water all around the battery (taken out 8 litres so far) but haven't worked out how to remove the felt lining yet to see more. I don't think I've got so much corrosion as you but it's definitely been sitting in water for some weeks and I can't work out why.
