Hi Guys,

Just got my renewal quote for my s3 car insurance... It's mad, it went up from £1100 to £2500.. Have not even had a claim and have 4 years no claims bonus...

Tried some compare insurance sites and quotes are not cheaper than £1850...

Does anyone know any audi specialist insurance for S3's... Or any insurance companies with have not gone mad with pricing... It the uninsured drivers messing everyone else up...

Thanks guys

i dont mate, but to make you feel better i pay pretty much 300 a month :0

Sorry to hear that, Adrian Flux were best for me when i had my Turbo. TBH its why I got rid of my, you can blame uninsured drivers but the whole systems screwed

It make me feel a little bit better that I'm not the only one in this position

I'm thinking of trying Adrian Flux... But if they can't offer any cheaper, then I'm screwing...
Service and not due next month too..

Hope you get it sorted mate, premiums also vary at different times of the year, if you have a missus/mum put her on the insurance, its likely to decrease further

I will see if adding my missus help... But mum had accident recently, so will avoid adding her...

Valentn, when are premiums the cheapest? What time of the year?

Talk to sky insurance, i'm 28 with 3 years driving experience and I pay 825 full comp on my s3, whilst its a lot of money its not really much more than my A3, they're worth a shot

Sky insurance, will try that.. What area do you live in? As west londons insurance premiums are crazy...

Mate, I honestly dont know what time of the year is best. Mine varied by 500quid from when I was looking in August to when got insured in Novemeber. However many people dont have such a long time span to find insurance.

My renewal is up end of Jan and I've had requotes taking me down from £850 last year ( 26 years old, 1 year ncb, 1 year driving experience) to 650 this year with a year extra on the above? I tried Sky and they quoted me £1000 but Admiral (current insurer) and Elephant came in just under £650.

Suppose there are some benefits to being an old git mines with Admiral at £289 as mentioned above get your misses etc on the insurance. When I had a Renault 5 gt turbo it was cheaper to have the wife on the insurance with L plates as a named driver than me to insure it by myself was a cool car to learn to drive in mind..

Greenlight have been miles cheaper than anywhere for me three years running and the don't charge extra for modifications (unless your going big power) you should give them a try

Oh yeah, I have my mum on mine as a named driver and have done on both of my cars which obviously helps!

Holy **** guys, i thought you in the Uk were paying a lot less than that!
I renewed my insurance here,(Last year it was 475.)This year,3rd party fire and theft for 295 euro, put my wife on the policy and it went down to 275 euros, result.

fresh insurance - £800 cheaper than the next best quotei had, and really easy to deal with

I guess it changes massively over your postcode, career, marrital status, homeowner etc...... It can be a little bit of lucky dip so just try as many places as possible, comparison websites can be ok as long as you check the fine print but if your going to modify your car someone like sky, greenlight or adrian flux will give you a better price because they understand modifying ( a bit anyway! ) and most importantly will pay out for mods and make sure your all nice and legal..
I feel old saying that

I tried SKY car insurance... Played around with their settings and found the following to get the quote @ £1100.
1 - if I don't protect my NCB they will insure me.
2 - Have to specify an alarm to get insured, chose "Audi Alarm System" it worked... Assuming this is the default alarm on S3's.

Does anyone know te standard S3 alarm details?

Ouch ! this is the first forum I have been on for a car where I am in the low insurance price group ! LOL

On my Evo 9 alone I was paying £98 per month.

I got the S3 and got quotes of around £32 a month ! I then added my 25 year old fiancee and it only took it up to £37 a month so I was well chuffed !

I am 28 and have 9 years NCB with 8 years of those all insured on high performance vehicles. Not sure if that makes any difference or not.

Im currently insuring the S3 through Sainsburys which is actually through Churchill.

HIC is who im through, was getting silly quotes from everyone including sky, brentacre, greenlight, adrian flux etc. Mine is "slightly" modified though so most of the usuals wouldnt even touch me.

£770 is what i pay, fully comp, agreed valuation, all mods declared, 9yrs ncb, 28 years old, 8000 miles per year

No way!!!! I pay £400 (renewal JUST come through!) for a year! Try Chris Knott :)

agreed valuation, 8000 miles per year

agreed valuation ? I thought you could only get that on specialist classic or future classic cars ? And 8,000 miles a year - again I thought they would only limit a max of 3,000 miles !

Also how does the agreed value work - did you have to get some kind of independant valuation and I presume what you pay is directly linked with your valuation ?

that's the advantage of living some where slightly more remote... is there even much to crash into in north wales!? I'd imagine crime round your way is pretty low as well?

you can blame uninsured drivers but the whole systems screwed

you're right, the whole system is screwed indeed. For some reason my insurance is £170 cheaper fully comp than it is TPFT!? and thats with the same insurer as well... madness! puttin my ol' deer on the insurance helped big time tho, think it literally took about 30% off!

Insurance will always be driver specific but takes into account the area in which the vehicle will be stored... inherently this will account for crime too. Any local variations and factors will be attributed.

All policies are also increasing due to increase in claims being made due to
Adverse weather and those of bogus nature.

Personally, and in my view, renewals will always increase as your current provider thinks you unlikely to leave and hopes that ignorance is bliss. In reality, it's not.

Id recommend you Look for an independent car insurance broker, there are many and I can recommend one, to get an independent quote for a policy. Websites like money supermarket, tesco compare etc...are sponsored and financed by themselves or others to draw clients in on the premise that the policies that come at the top of the search engines are the best or the cheapest but more often than not they aren't. They simply do not bring either the cheapest or most comprehensive into the equation.

Hope this helps, contact me if you want my brokers details. He/they are excellent and will provide you with free/honest appraisel.

Hope this helps

James

HIC just offered an agreed valuation so i took it. Its an upfront payment of about £15 and you have to send a minimum of 6 photos along with a list of mods/resto work and any receipts you have which backs up the valuation. Then in the event of a claim i will get a true valued figure instead of bog standard s3 money.

The limit on the mileage i agreed as its only a 2nd car, and if i go over then il just ring them to up it. Doubt ill need it as itll only get weekend use.

Also worth trying a multicar policy as my quote with admiral for me and the other half both fully comp on mine was £1990 but when done a multicar policy with both of us insured on both cars fully comp (hers is a Ka sport) mine was £990 and hers was £650 where as hers was just over £700 as an individual policy

So it was cheaper to insure both cars with them on multicar than just to insure mine........
Now work that one out?? :)

Admiral accepted your S3 with mods declared?

Cheers guys...

I tried admiral via go compare yesterday... Managed to get the insurance down to £1350 with NCB protected... This was achieved by adding my girlfriend to the policy... Still a bit high, tried adding my missus to my sky quote and it went up by £200, strange...

James (jimgrim77) any chance you could please get the broker details you use for me? It worth a shot to see what he can do for me in price...

Admiral quoted me £1,200 and then £1,100 when I added my fiancé with her provisional. Called them up to accept the quote and confirmed she was my fiancé and the quote went down to £850, result!

..I then said I would need to pay monthly and it went all the way up to £1350!

Another £500 by Admiral to pay monthly rather than one lump-sum, LIVID.

And you still continued to pay monthly...sorry, but quite frankly you need you head examined. You do realise even putting the whole amount on a credit card and their extortionate interest charges would still have been cheaper !!!

Are you sure you/they have the right ??

I do pay 300 a month :/

When i insured the car, i took the monthly confused quote from admiral with me when i purchased the car, the quote was 1,200. when i told the guy on the phone i wanted to pay monthly, they said ok we just need to requote because we don't give monthly figures online. it then went up to 2,700 and as i was sat in the car which i'd just bought i didn't really have much room to barter.

Then a couple of days later they said we can see in your previous policy with us that you declared 3 points. i said yes but my 3 years is up and there not valid anymore, and he claimed that to insurance companies it's 5 years. so they amended my policy another £746.00 bringing my yearly insurance to £3,500.

God... Feel sorry for you mate... Having to pay £3500... They had you by the balls when you were buying your car... I thought points do clear after 3years too...

What's the cancellation policy like?

ye they do clear, but from insurance perspective they want to know the last 5 year history..

it's £47.50 to cancel as long as the month has been paid off, if you want to cancel mid month, then you pay for each day on top of the cancellation fee.. and at 300 a month i think that's about £7.50 a day.

Problem is even if i wanted to cancel, i don't want to sell the car and i tried shopping around and i couldn't get a quote anywhere near 3,500.

I just wish i saved an extra month and paid the £1,500 straight out and i wouldn't be getting stung every month. but nevermind hopefully it will drop dramatically when i'm up for renewal.

Im in the same boat as you, looking for cheaper car insurance.. The guys on the forum on this tread have help me find company and tricks which have saved me a lot looking for a renewal...

Have you Tried sky? Or even adding mum/missus on your policy?

already got mum and dad on the policy, but na i haven't tried sky.

thing is if i cancel now, i've paid 4 months coming up on 5 months which means i'm binning 1,200/1,500 that i've paid, plus i'd have to start with a 12 month policy instead of 7 months which is remaining on this one.

guess i'll just ride it out and be tight for cash until the policy is finished :/

I work in Debt Collection so don't hold Credit Cards as I know what they can do. I didn't have the money to pay it upfront so decided against it.

I lost the discount for paying in a single sum, and then had to pay interest on the quote as well.

Insurance companies are criminals! I have a feeling that just like the banking industry they will soon be exposed as such. The know everyone needs insurance so can pretty much charge what they like. We've had multi car insurance with admiral for years and ach year they put the premium up, each year I phone to complain and each year I end up getting it cheaper than the year before! Last year it went up from £850 a year for the 2 cars to £1250, I ended up getting it for £780 . The whole joke is they give you loyalality discounts and one off discounts if you complain even though you're a loyal customer anyway!

It's all a con, and rally boils my pi** every February when I have to go through the same crap just to pay a sensible premium and as for them charging 100's if not £1000's for paying monthly then that is definitely criminal and outrageous!

I'm angry for you guys that get stung each year.

Plus I hate iPhone iPad touch type! Sorry for all the spelling mistakes...

the whole "pay monthly pay 50% more" thing is an absolute joke... I know credit cards arn't cool, particularly in this day and age but it's well worth sticking an annual premium on a credit card and just pay a bit off every month. That's I do anyway, works out loads better off! Plenty of cards do 0% on purchases these days as well so leaves you quids in!
