Hi All,

The first post, I've been extensively looking at the various forum posts on here in regards to the resonator delete, with mixed reviews. Some saying too loud, drone etc. I'm looking at getting the BCS Powervalve anti-drone resonator delete system, was just wondering whether those of you with one. When driving in comfort or efficiency, when easing off the throttle do you still get the various crackles and bangs?

The various videos I've seen have this, but I'm assuming they are in Dynamic mode or Sport?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Short answer: yes. But it depends of how high the revs are and if you release the throttle completely or not. If the revs are at around 4k in second and you release the throttle completely you will definitely hear some burbles in Comfort. It's more pronounced with the res delete compared to stock where you should be lucky to get even a little burble in comfort mode. I'm really happy with it 6 months in.

Thanks for the reply, I think I'm more concerned as my Dad drives the car from time to time and don't think he'd be a huge fan if it is constantly crackling in those modes. Think it is the dynamic/sport modes where you really get them.

I see! Thanks for the response, think I'll go for it when I get an idea of when I can get it booked in with Nige @ BCS.

He won’t notice a thing. My girlfriend sure didn’t :whistle2: You can’t hear anything as long as you just drive normal and follow the traffic.

Getting this fitted tomorrow, not BCS I've gone for VAGsport, I currently have my exhaust valves coded open so will have to see what it sounds like and make a decision on weather to close them.

Think many say that with valves open it's very loud and with no anti drone system, the drone can be quite bad. But personal preference I'm sure.

We'll see, hardly do any motorway miles so drone may not be such an issue, have ODBeleven so closing the valves as & when's ok. If its too loud i'll just refit the res.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts in regards to the loudness with valves permanently open, don't think it'll suit me however as do a lot of motorway/dual carriageway driving.

Drone only comes into play when your car is about 3k rpm and above. Won’t be an issue as you can do triple figures and not be on that many rpm.

Mite be worth checking with your insurance company first, i was going have it done but when i checked with my insurance they say it will avoid my policy.

Thanks, I've already rung them and they said it'll increase it by about £5 if I were to do it now, my insurance runs out at the end of August so by the time I'd get it done I'd probably be looking at a new policy regardless and will declare it then.

Currently with Admiral (no black box). Having difficulty finding insurance to be fair, I'm only 20 so 2-3 years driving and 2 years NCD only. Companies like Adrian flux and other specialist insurers won't insure me or just quote silly money.

Bit off topic, but how did you get the badges like "Team Daytona Grey" under your profile on here please?

How the heck do you get insurance on an S3 without a box at 20?
My son is 20 and had to have a box on his 08 vauxhall Corsa!

You pay more haha! Worked out about £300 more to get insurance without one, also increasing voluntary excess (£400) helps too. Various other usual "tricks" as well, such as adding parents.

Seems to be pot luck to be honest I’ve had my S3 since last year at 21 with Aviva (multi-car policy) and it was about £600 for the year. Which ironically was cheaper to insure than my old 1.4 64 Reg A3 which was £800 odd:blink:

Very odd, my quotes are significantly more than that, but I have a high(ish) mileage and a lot of that are business miles.

My quote for the current year was just under £700 until I got another £170 off for having ACC.
I'm 51 though with full no claims bonus, no points and a very small claim 2 years ago

That’s a crazy price only thing I can think is I’m in a quite rural part of the country, I only had 3 years no claims at the time. Although my parents are listed as secondary drivers (I’m the main) they both have 15+ no claims bonus’s which bring it down too. I’m still hoping it’ll drop a little more when it comes to renewal in November though.

Definitely is a postcode lottery one of my friends moved into his own place 1 mile down the road for his parents and his insurance company wanted another £250 for the remaining 6 months of his policy...

Getting back on topic though, for anyone with Aviva I’ve checked about res-delete as a mod and they are fine with it and won’t cost any extra to add if you update online :friendly wink:

Aviva won't even insure me

It may be because Aviva have age restrictions on certain cars my old A3 was 21 and my S3 is 25 meant to be minimum. However, because I’d been insured with them since 18 with a clean license they referred it to the underwriters who approved it, only downside being the excess is quite high, I’ve got young drivers excess (under 25) and ‘premium’ vehicle excess plus voluntary excess which totals about £750 altogether.

Yup many won't insure me because I'm too young for the value of the car being insured, regardless of security features. Many sports car specialist insurances won't either for the same reason. I'm under no illusion it'd be difficult. Lowest quote so far is £2700, (had 3 for £2100 but the insurance companies don't have flattering reviews).

You think that's bad 1.8 non turbo 8l 40 plus 10 years Ncb 900£

Ok, so have had my res delete fitted & as suspected it might be a little too much with the exhaust valves open.

So to close the valves is it a case of putting car in comfort with ignition on, using ODBeleven to close them? then will they be back to normal so they open in dynamic?

Based on my readings. OBD11 works, Carista beta and VCDS. Unless you unplugged the leads to em, in which case plug em back in.

Sorry I know this is old......but you guys seem to have good knowledge of res delete.
I want my 2015 s3 cabriolet res deleted, can I buy just a cheap pipe off Ebay or get a exhaust place just fit a pipe in ?
I suppose its worth doing, I was just worried about drone on motorway/freeway at 70 mph.
My car is 100% stock.

Thanks,does it actually work?
Some people say they fit normal and don't get drone as long as rest of exhaust is standard

Definitely works. I wouldn't risk buying any others as you might end up buying 2 x res deletes if your not happy with the first one. Best to just go with the BCS one knowing it will get the job done

Ok thanks.....just seen this too.

Thumbs up for BCS Res one, I found my car plenty loud enough with that fitted, wouldn’t have wanted it any louder put it that way. Wouldn’t risk one that wasn’t anti drone but that’s just me.

What's the BCS one like when sat at 70mph on the motorway? I hear that the BCS pipe was designed with the exhaust valves to be closed?
