I'm glad I found it. I've never even heard of a flame deflector plate, or that the car had one and it could be in that condition.

When I had mine apart Im sure I didn't see this - Maybe I should order one and stick it in

It was well stuck up the pipe. However you never know if someone has been in there before and removed. I only noticed it when I stuck my little finger in there to judge how much crud was stuck in the pipe. I hit something and pulled it out with long nose pliers.
