With about 5k in options needed to bring it up to the level of a Fiesta Titanium no doubt.

This won't translate to UK cars like currency, cars are more expensive over there and all this has been posted before and no doubt this thread will be removed for this reason

The RS3 may make some sense in Germany where you have good roads and de-restricted sections of autobahn but an expensive car with a 70mph speed limit and lots of traffic jams in the UK. I'll look forward to being passed by one when I'm doing 100-120mph on the autobahn when I go to Germany in a few weeks time.

It better have some decent standard spec then! I cringed seeing some used rs3's with the crappy 6 inch 5 pixel pop up screens

Nope it's got the exact same equipment spec as the current but with a extra 33 bhp, matter of fact probably less, led headlights are standard spec now, they weren't 2 years ago.
God l wish it was £41k lol

What would be the appeal of an RS3 in the UK?

Think in the U.K. the PFL RS3 got the LED headlamps (£750 option on the S3) as standard. Not much else though !

Surely that's an argument for anything over 150bhp...?

By the way I have often questioned why I'm spending a fortune on my S5 to just crawl in traffic...!

I agree, but surely the 'sweet spot' is between 200 and 300bhp. Good enough acceleration and plenty of torque for normal driving and for the ability to enjoy the driving when the conditions allow.
When I've test driven various A3's I personally have found the 150 I a bit lacking which is why I gone for the 184 and to a degree if you like the spec of the S3 then fine but 400bhp on UK roads.

Ill admit even the 310bhp of the S3 is even a bit of overkill but why not?

Hot hatches with the supercar killer potential yes plz speed limit might be 70 but i like getting to it as quickly as possible

It is a pity I could buy 3 Ford Fiestas with higher spec than an RS3 for the money.... but they don't have a 5 cylinder so stop your b!tching

Awesome spec then...minus the heated front windscreen on the fiesta....lol,its not expensive if you can afford it....simples

It's horrendous value for money, regardless of how wealthy you might be.

So is the S3, mine's cost £40k 2 years ago, option my spec now on a facelift it's £42k mightily expensive there's a few guys on here who's cars cost more, for example there's a new S5 Sportback ex demo on Audi's used car site it's £59,995 basically any car with a S/RS is bad value for your money

Some people buy a car with the same sensible logic as they do a toaster or washing machine. Others buy a car from an emotional viewpoint.

You can have serious fun owning a nice car on UK roads without breaking any laws or killing yourself or others.

By your logic my car is pure insanity - £70k, 450bhp, 4sec 0-60, less than 15mpg - but a logically purchased car wouldn't make me smile at 4.30am when my alarm goes off to go to work, it wouldn't mean I have roadtrips booked with fellow owners who i now get to chat to and share a passion with, it wouldn't make people put there thumbs up at me in tunnels while laughing their heads off, it wouldn't get people coming up to me to take pics and ask questions at the Shell garage, it wouldn't make a dad feel cool when his sons ask you to pick them up and make some noise so they can show off to their mates and on instagram, it wouldn't make me get texts from the local specialist garage asking if I could swing by for a brew because the car excites them, it wouldn't give me the childish joy of going home via the multistory on a friday night and spitting flames at the young lads who congregate in their chav mobiles and most importantly my poor mum wouldn't know what to get me for my birthday - i'm pretty sure i have every RS4 branded thing on the market

My view is that you can have just a much driving enjoyment in a lesser powered car that an RS3. Perhaps not as much badge snobbery but then each to his own. If someone gets a big kick out of owning an RS3 then good luck to them. But I'm sure they would get more enjoyment driving it on the roads in Germany than in the UK. Perhaps each RS3 should come with a German holiday so that they get the chance to experience driving it on 'real' roads. German owners can collect their new RS3 or any Audi direct from the factory and then drive it home which must be great fun.

You're right you can have fun with less power. My bro used to have a 100bhp suzuki ignis sport and that was hillarious fun but like i say a car is a total emotional package.

There is plenty of fun to be had in the UK. Your Germany example is not great. I've done it and yes you can do vmax runs on the autobahn without going to jail but the rest is no different to here just less natural as you are on the wrong side. You can go fast on a track or down an airfield.

I disagree about about the 'rest' of the roads in Germany not being better than the UK. I've been on holiday with my A3 to Germany a couple of times a year over the last 10 or so years and the quality of their roads is much better. Better marked with white lines at the edges and centre lines, very little if any pot-holes or rough surfaces and some splendid countryside to drive through if you pick the right areas. Some of the autobahns are busy but not all and the drivers do seem to have a better lane discipline that in the UK. No empty inside lane and nose to tail in the outside lane.

Ok. Going a bit off topic. You say "if you pick the right areas". That is true of anywhere including the UK. It's a fruitless exercise to compare thousands of miles of road network in one country to another.

To say an RS3 is fun in Germany but not in the UK is crazy talk in my opinion. I have fun in mine every single day, much more fun than i had in any 'sensible' car i ever owned.

Even " if you pick the right areas" with good driving roads in the UK nine times out of ten the roads will be poorly marked and have numerous pot-holes etc. These include 'driving' roads in Wales, North York moors, Derbyshire, Scotland etc. The roads in Germany are just far better marked and maintained and of course very few 'speed' cameras. I'm sure you enjoy driving you car in the UK, so do I, but I enjoy driving mine in Germany far more which is why I go their for holidays. Even the motorways across France and Belgium are better maintained than those in the UK.

If you go to the republic of ireland you get the same thing when they got the EU grants years ago to bring them up to EU standard and to have English/Irish on every sign.

Their road service actually go around and repainting lines and clean the roads! And instead of being allowed to dig up a foot wide trench up the road which leaves it riddled with pot holes a month later they must take out replace a whole section of road....

the "billions" it would take to fix the Uk road network is worthless unless they stop dodgy workmanship and poor maintenance

Still doesn't mean you cant go to a nice mountain B road and have fun accelerating from corner to corner its not all about going 165mph which just seems boring to me

Driving enjoyment comes down to a few things. I think the major thing missing from the RS3 is a manual gearbox. I bought an S3 Saloon (manual) in April 2015 instead of the RS3 for 2 reasons. 1) Prefered the look of the Saloon, over a Sportback, and 2) it was available with a manual gearbox.

I'm torn if to order an RS3 Saloon. Yes the added power and noise would be most welcome, but can I really live with a gearbox shuffling the gogs for me? For me, a manujal gearbox is the most important element of driver involvement. OK, the box in the S3 isn't exactly great, but at least it is a manual. Who cars if a DSG equipped car is 0.2 seconds quicker to 60?

It's funny how Porsche jumped on the Auto only for the GT3. Loads of protests etc from existing customers. Yes they still sold as many GT3's as they could build. But when the GT4 came out, they made a point in saying, it was for the people who prefer interaction rather than chasing numbers. Any funnily enough the Gen.2 GT3 is rumoured to be available with a manual box too.

So come on Audi. Give us a manual gearbox. We're not all that lazy that we can't be ***** to change gear ourselves. After all, on a back road, that's what makes driving fun. If I want to steer only, I'll go play Forza motorsport on a X-Box one.

There's a real good reason why they don't do RS cars in manual boxes very few people want them

Driven mine in Germany and could not get V Max due to traffic!

However this does not mean the RS3 is wasted, and believe me when I say a lot of the roads here in Poland are far worse than in the UK, (I am an English guy who moved over there before any "you don't know" comments!!). Just need to find the right ones. They are there...

Don't really understand the need to comment on a price thread if all you really want to do is tell everyone the car is a waste of time...??

This won't translate to UK cars like currency, cars are more expensive over there and all this has been posted before and no doubt this thread will be removed for this reason

I agree completely, as the price of the face-lifted Golf R on VW's german site states € 42.675 for a 3 door DSG model. So therefore the Golf R will not be sold for £42k in the UK, as the list price for that is £33.280 which confirms this is true.

If anything the RS3 will have a small price increase from what the pre-facelift was sold for, just like how the Golf R had a small increase.

There's a real good reason why they don't do RS cars in manual boxes very few people want them

Is that actual fact though? To only offer one option is restricting any comparison. It would be interesting to see the numbers of manual S3's against DSG S3's sold in the UK. The B7 RS4 was a manual, and sold very well. Can't think many people would go back to their Audi dealer and ask for the gears to be changed for them. Maybe they did? Thats maybe why Audi now only offer DSG/Auto on all RS cars?

Or maybe it's a cost thing? Develop one gearbox instead of 2?
Maybe it's chasing 0-60 times, that an Auto will always change gears faster?
Maybe it's chasing mpg figures, as we now know VW/Audi DSG gearboxes have a secret eco mode to help official figures.

Whatever the reason. I would suggest many people would choose a manual over an DSG box. But the main point there is choice.

'Waste of time', 'expensive' and 'value' are all subjective.

For me, the RS3 ticks pretty well all the boxes for an everyday car and yes it might be 'expensive' but I thank my Maker daily that I am lucky enough not to think so...

lol @ why would you want an RS3 in the UK :)

Own one and drive one & you will VERY QUICKLY appreciate that you can have LOTS of enjoyment up to 70 mph

Everytime you start the engine the sound alone makes you smile.
Hearing the engine / exhaust @ 3,500 rpm in any gear (even low speed) is fantastic.
Feeling the acceleration from 0 up to 70mph is incredible.

I've previously had both a TTS and S5 and the RS3 beats both those cars for driving enjoyment and sound-wise there is no comparison.

You don't have to be raggin' a car or driving at speeds over 100 mph to enjoy it !

and yes as a daily driver, you would be hard pushed to beat it :sunglasses:

So it finaly materialized, about 2 months after my insurance people insisted I take their cash offer which was 6k short of what I paid for the car. Would almost make you think they had inside information or something !!
