Petrol pump issue

Have a problem putting petrol into my car.. the pump keeps knocking off can only put in a few cent at a time I know this is because the pump thinks my tank is full but it’s empty.

Same with mine (but diesel), I found if I put the nozzle about ½ to ¾ of the way in, then rotate it 180 degrees so the handle is upwards, it'll fill properly

nope, not in the slightest! I just "managed with it" all along
