Newbie;- Just bought a 2002 S3, 129000 miles (first car with over 100,000 miles!!) and all looks and drives well pulling across the range, so far pleased, service history but need to get her off to the local specialist for a fluid change and a check over as a precaution. and once given a wash and wax she will be looking spot on as well.

Inside need a few bits, headlight switch and the heater/Ac switches have lots the markings, any ideas where to get new ones. Also Stereo stuck with some CD in the changer so need to sort that out.

These are new to me so any advice welcome wrt things to look out for but I'm hoping the local Indy John Austin will guide!!

welcome to the forum, Enjoy your S3 and the associated ups and downs associated with the ownership :)

Do you have any modification plans?

cheers, yes a few but light, air filter, and a chip only but need to check out the engine full first.

New headlight switch can be bought from a dealer or better still the ASN parts request... Facelift S3's like yours use the soul black version (not satin black) and don't have a headlight levelling dial.. there are a few on eBay from time to time but soul black ones for an S3 tend to be rare especially in decent condition.

AC buttons are the same issue... soul black is a 'soft touch' coating and it seems it reacts to oils and other contaminates from touch... replacing the unit is expensive but others have sourced used units on eBay etc and just replaced the buttons or there are 'label' kits on eBay to stick over the top...

Double din versions are rarer than single din ones but buttons can be used between either... I ended up sourcing a mint satin black one for mine which don't wear like soul black...

Also Stereo stuck with some CD in the changer so need to sort that out.

If this is a symphony 2 double din with in dash changer then its a fairly common problem... not actually sure what the fix is tbh so sorry but most people with double din retro fit an RNS-E unit

If you want to see what the heater controls look like when the soul black buttons have been replaced with satin black ones here's how I did this...post#82

As for the Stereo, don't know the fix also but on the back of the headunit is cd changer 'plug in'.You have the option of fitting an Audi cd changer in the boot (some still kicking around on ebay) but the leads are harder to find or there are many different 'aux in' devices ranging from cheaper basic functions to bluetooth/mp3 versions that are quite pricey.

Or even a lesser spotted Phatbox

Thanks for the help, already found a heater1
Car just coming through the Indy with all oils, rocker fixed. unfortunately the cambelt needed changing as, although stated in the add, it was outside its time limit and a new rear spring fitted so ******** to the seller who was supposed to be a mechanic!!
Thanks for the help on the heater stuff , have found one as well as some sticker so lets see. Been reading up and think I will go slightly lowered, (20-25mm) Bilstiens (as I have a source) all round and then sort the tracking, camber etc. Few other little niggles to sort but the local Indy recons she is OK

Once done may look at a chip but need to be happy the engine is OK but I prefer to go fast corner corners its easy to go fast in a straight line!

Then focus on the Bikes;- Honda Cb750, 400/4 plus Kawasaki z650 and 1985 GPZ 900R as well as a 1970 triumph t100R Daytona;- Oh and a nice Triumph TR6 (for sale) as I have a second one to fix!

Tr6 here ;-http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132066533188?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

GPZ here;- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132066543185?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

car back and all is well, just need to sort the stereo, CD changer is 'broken', it was jamming but upon er 'inspection' I found that the plates that carry the disks had jumped of the lifting thread, anyway extracted cd's and re installed with the changer removed so at least have a radio;- was thinking of just reinstalling the changer and connecting an Aux lead to the CD output fro an Ipod;-Suggestion ideas and help please?

I need to change the door speakers as they are definitely not putting up what is going in, suggestions

here you go

Stickers work well on the heater controls, just make sure you scrape off the remainder of the black of the buttons around old symbols, so there is a white patch, then when you put the stickers on the new symbols show through, because you could never line them up otherwise.
