Took the car back to the shop and they said everything looked good

The suspension and the overall feel is still terrible.. honestly don't know what the issue could be. It has only been on the lift, and nothing else.

My car has magnetic ride, could that be a part of the problem?

Well .... Maybe you just need a sharper alignment .... That will definitely help in terms of steering feel and comfort

    Hmm

Well I had my wheels aligned a few months ago, when I changed from winter to summer tires

Before I took the car to the shop it drove like its supposed to. Then when I picked up my car, the suspension felt terrible, bumby and all that.. its almost unbearable, especially as a passenger.

All the shop did was change the IC

it's been two weeks now, and its still the same. I'm 100% sure that the problem is the back dampers. the front seems fine.
the dampers are stock (9 years old, 130k kilometers). so i guess it's due to a change.

I'm going to give the car a few more weeks before ordering coilovers.

do anyone have any experience with KW v2 compared to the KW street comfort coilovers?

while changing the suspension with coilovers, would changing the top mount bearing and bushes be advisable? i'm almost certain they are as old as the car.

For the sake of circa £80 do the top mounts and bearings.

If you want actual daily comfort you'll want to get KW Comfort coilovers ....

And change to TT top mounts with SKA bearings .... Old will be Rusty and stiff

all these part numbers, and where to get them is a bit confusing tbh. so honestly im a bit lost :D

is the OEM parts really that bad?

i was looking at getting this:

You want actual links to purchase ....

    Here

    https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/ecs-tuning/ecs-tuning-upgraded-front-strut-mount-kit/

Those are TT mounts .... Likely Febi ones ....

And no, OEM isn't bad .... Just the TT mount is stiffer and quieter from what I've heard .... I run the 034 mounts and have a lot of strange noises .... I was OCD about installing them correctly and still they aren't good .... TT mounts just are the best of both worlds.

    https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-car/audi/a3-8p/suspension-top-mount-bearing-pq35-platform-pair/

Those are some aftermarket bearing brand .... Should be alright .... Although I personally like SKF because they seem to be better quality.

Link to some SKF mounts and bearings .... Couldn't find the bearings separately .... The ones awesomegti has should be fine.

    yes exactly :D

okay. looking at the ECS one you linked me, it says that the kit includes

    • (2) Front Upper Strut Mounts from the Audi TT
    • (2) Front Upper Strut Bearings
i guess that makes it a "complete" kit with mounts and bearings

question 1: is this only for the front? and if so, do / can anything in the back be changed like these?

question 2: do i need anything else apart from the Mounts & bearings?

Oh true .... Guess your fine just buying that kit ....

Ya this is only for the fronts ....
The back mounts never really need replacing from what I've heard and seen myself .... They always seem strong no matter the age .... The don't have to turn so that probably helps .... they are factory stiff so don't really need upgrading.
Sometimes they are a bit rusted onto the rear dampers .... But I'm sure they can be remove easily enough.

Depends .... You changing your struts right? .... Are your bump stops the short version .... They should be .... Dust boots still nice an uncracked? .... Your bushings should be mostly fine .... You don't have that many KM on the car right?
You could get new mount bolts but I don't think there needed ....

great! makes life a little easier when you only have to worry about ordering 1 item.

its an S3 from 2009 with 130k km

most of the suspension parts afaik are still factory oem / havent been changed ever.

probably gonna order the KW street comfort coilovers + the kit soonish

    Ya it sure does ....

Okay then most of your bushings should be fine .... Have you done the tyrol front kit yet?

You might want to refresh your endlinks well your at it, just to stiffen up the handling a bit but I doubt it would be noticable.

Cool .... Good luck .... It's great that your actually gonna try the comforts .... A lot of people just go for V3's but I don't think there that comfortable or practical for daily driving or even backroad spirited driving ....

    tyrol front kit? nope :O

yeah man! driving with magnetic ride over the last 3 years have actually been terrible. it might just be the dampers being warn out.. i cant recommend the MR to anyone. at least not on the s3 8p platform :D

so what im aiming for is "comfort" im not expecting it to be crazy comfortable, but as long as the ride quality and comfort is better than it is now, im happy

Call Audi and get RS3 top mounts is you want something stiffer. Cheaper than the S3 top mounts. Didn’t realise TT mounts fitted too.
Damian @DPM would be able to advise on comforts v V2 or V3 on UK roads.

Okay .... You might want to look into it .... Look up tyrol sport front rigid collar kit on golfmk6.com .... Lots of info on there as to what it does ..... Not needed if you subframe is staying centered and properly aligned.

Shucks .... I always thought the magnetic ride was a cool rare feature, although it doesn't do much ....

Keep in mind you'll need the KW or Eibach magnetic ride sensor delete kit ....

Ride comfort is subjective .... Some people find there ride is more comfortable when they have a stiff coilover setup (don't know why ) others like me find the OEM suspension is overly harsh considering the day and age we are in (I also find too much wheel gap a little tiresome)

Stiffer is almost always better .... If the roads are perfectly flawless without imperfections .... But unfortunately roads have all sorts of imperfections .... I ran coilovers before my current setup and I actually felt that it skipped to much in corners .... Wasn't very happy with it ....

But I think if you went with comforts or V3's they would both work for adjusting to remove stiffness if needed ....
The comfort is gonna remove some wheel gap well removing the crashy feel and increasing handling .... Win win win

well yea as you said, its subjective.. i hate the way the MR dampers "absorb" bumbs, especially on bad roads. but again, mine could be faulty.

i want my car to be planted, without the crazy body roll and bumby ride like it is right now.

i never track the car, or anything like that. i just want a good street car, with the everyday comfort. and not having to avoid every minor bumb on the road, just to make it "driveable"

thats why im probably going with the KW SC

Maybe you need your mag ride re-calibrated. @DJAlix knows all about this, and has a blog that details. See #423 here

you definitely need it looked at then, as I have not read ANY negative comments on mag ride from anyone on here. Don't have it myself, so cannot add any personal experience...

has anyone had any problems when changing their intercooler to the Wagner one, that it increased the intake temp? I just had mine on a dyno.

The temp had increased from 22 on stock, to 40 with the Wagner.

Looking at the IC and AC rad, I would assume that it being so close to each other would affect the intake temp?

You need your mag ride reset with vagcom, for sure, they should have done it for you if they knew there stuff, take it to a decent vw/audi independent garage.

After two weeks, the car is like it was before getting the mag ride reset. Its back to being bumby again, with terrible comfort.

The drive home from the audi dealer was really good, the car felt so much better.

I hope i dont have to replace the dampers :(
