As title says my mates thinking of getting one of the two. Cheers

The PD 140 has Bosch injectors, which proved to be very reliable. The PD 170 has Siemens piezo injectors which had problems.
The 140 one can be easily tuned up to ~260-280PS with a bigger turbo and a map. The 170 one is more difficult to tune.
Also I think that the gearboxes are different, different ECU.
The 140 engine is noisier and vibrates more than the 170 one.

I'm sure there are some more differences but that's all I can remember right now.

I also heard the 170 had DPF issues. I had a 140 PD BKD, was a great engine. Looking to buy another soon.

Cheers for the replys sent him the info he's been looking at darksides site getting him excited!

What's said above is correct about the injectors. To be honest a lot is different from 140 to 170:

Turbo, manifold, injectors, head, inter cooler etc. there's not actually a lot they share, other than the same capacity. Outside of the engine the 170 has larger breaks and the (dreaded) DPF.

Having driven both and owning a 170 for a fair while, which I loved. I'd say the 170 is a better engine to begin with, remap and DPF delete on top and it turns into a monster.
