This really is a message to all those people who think it's a good idea to buy a clone cable either from China or from eBay. (Yes I actually bought one to save a few quid) First of all having never owned a genuine cable I thought the quality was petty good. The software came on a mini CD, it's cracked version of the original so you can't update it. I was happy it worked and for only £25 I thought wow what a bargain. However I was very wrong. The cable cut out while coding!, the connection was obviously loose and not made very well. I ended up with a 'Control Module Incorrectly Coded' error message and obviously I didn't have chance to save the original configuration. This now means it's off to Audi so they can try to load the original coding from the factory with a nice £75 price tag and also with the possibility of losing my custom stage 2 remapping along with it plus the days I'm going to be without a car.
This is what the cloned cable looked like;
As you can see from the photos above I opened up the cable just to see what i was actually plugging into my car and the quality was quite shocking.
So for anybody reading this don't be tempted to buy a clone cable, It will inevitably cost you more than a genuine cable to fix.
I have since bought a new cable from an authorised dealer in the UK and learned my lesson. The quality of these new cables are pretty amazing in comparison and you also get free software updates from Ross-Tech.
The new VCDS cable comes with pretty much all the support anyone could need plus the help from fellow forum members. Please anyone who has thought about buying from eBay or China DON'T it's really not worth it.
