My code listing shows 1N3 Speed-related variable steering assist (Servotronic) fitted to my bus.

so there are infact 3 relay options then, wonder what 641 is like.

Inside front cover of service book Tim, it will list the factory fitted code part.

From the parts info it would imply that.
A4 with servotronic fitment is code 1N3 fitted with relay 640
S4 has servotronic as standard also 1N3 with relay 641
RS4 has servotronic as standard but is FN1 with relay 642

Well that's my interpretation, feel free to edit if that's wrong.

Its very possible that the differing relays make compensation adjustments to the steering allowing for the extra engine weight of the S4/RS4 V8 engine weight as the steering rack etc are the same parts.

Apologies for the hijack Edgar,

But never heard of this until now. A quick search suggests that it's quite popular to remove the relay altogether to disable the servotronic too if you're not a fan of it.

Hard to know, but any relay listed online was insane money. Don't think it's something I'd be tempted by anyway.

There are 3 different relays and also 3 different ratios for the steering rack. Rob, you are correct in your listing there but the S4 probably won't net you as much difference in feel compared to the RS4.

I have done the servotronic relay removal a few years ago and I drove that way for about a year or two but it make a real pain making turns while not moving or moving really slow. Just takes away all power steering feel. It's a harmless mod if you want to try removing it and seeing for yourself.

Got home today from snowboarding in Vail. That was well worth the trip.

Installed the new supercore, primed the turbo, and took her out for a quick spin after letting it idle for a bit and checking for leaks.

Put me back in the seat like I was used to it doing before. I'll take some time this week to look it over and get some logs for Motoza to look at. Hopefully we're on to something finally here. Oh, and no smoke. Finally!!

that huge... what flywheel and clutch are you using ? as im looking to replace mine when i do my rebuild
It's a Clutch masters kit. I think the 450fx or something like that. It should say it on the first page of the build i believe.

So I attempted to swap in the RS4 brake booster today to see if it would help with the spongy pedal feel.

It doesn't fit. It's slightly thicker than the stock one by about a millimeter so it wouldn't fit into the master cylinder. I think if you get the master cylinder assembly as well then it will work but not without it.

It was such a pain to do though. I literally was telling at the car. All is good now though. Brakes work again. Maybe next time.

New meth pump arrived. I believe the old pump that I have installed is not strong enough for the port injection so I'm seeing higher intake temps at WOT and a little timing advance. Spoke to the Prometh guys and they say this should be fine for the small nozzles I'm running. If not, then I'll call them back and see about exchanging it.

New file in and flashed from Motoza turning things up a little bit but i won't get a chance to log until next week when the weather gets better but things are finally progressing after months/years of troubleshooting.

I have a lot of problems with axles so I'll be working on that over the weekend as well so the car is on jack stands because of that currently.

Love this thread!

Keep looking at the turbine and compressor wheels in the post above. They make my K04 look so tiny ha ha.

Keep us updated on the WMI. I’m thinking of adding it to mine at some point and would like to get some ‘real world’ feedback on what it’s like to live with etc

I've been running WMI for like 7 years. It's very safe and easy to use. Usually people who say it's dangerous have never used it before, they just make that up.

Only thing I’m concerned about is that it burns with no flame and the thought of having it in the boot right behind my kids scares me, a lot!

Where is your tank mounted? I know some people use the windscreen washer reservoir.

Honestly the only real danger is inhalation. You have to vent the tank out of the car so the tank doesn't get messed up by collapsing on itself. Mine is in the trunk and i have a new that runs to the wheel well and vents there.

I've accidentally sprayed meth all over my hot engine before because lines have come loose and it didn't ignite. You also shouldn't run just straight meth. It should be a 50/50 mix with distilled water to get the cooling properties from the water.

Once you get it going it's like running 100 octane gas (maybe 108 RON), I'm using US gas rating. I would equate it to an instant and safe on the engine boost of 30-50 hp to the wheels. It really is that big s difference maker.

what about some nitrous oxide injection on your B7 Edgar.

I've looked into it very little and someone could do that too. I just fine that getting meth and distilled water is much easier than trying to get someone to fill a nitrous tank. The concept is very similar, you just have to decide whether to do a wet **** or dry shot.

Installed my new Prometh pump today. Pretty straight forward so I should be able to push all 5 nozzles pretty comfortably. Took some pictures of my pump setup since I can't remember if I've ever really shown what it looks like and where I hide it. Car is up on stands since I'm trying to change the axle flange which I'll finish tomorrow. Can't take the car out now anyways since we got a monstrous snow storm here in Colorado. Where is spring at?

Did a few things today, none really performance related. Bought some wheels that need some TLC. I think it'll buff out. That will be an upcoming project.

Went by Adams Polish in Denver (near Denver) and bought some products. It's nice having an actual store nearby.

Tomorrow, off to buy some meth straight from a distributor at a fraction of the price.

Haha! Yea, just one or two extra.

Today I went and bought some more happy juice. I'm not low in my tank but eventually I'll need some and it's not gonna expire on me anyways.

Also got some new (to me) black visors. My old ones didn't have the garage controls. Easy install and let me fix something that was bugging me while I was in there. And yes, if you've never noticed, i have a black suede headliner that i did myself.

Did you ever sort the spongey braking?

After doing discs and pads mine was spongey after bleeding it 10 times, in the end adjusting the handbrake tension fixed it. I can only presume it takes up some pre-travel

No. Never figured it out. I tried putting in the RS4 brake booster but you need the RS4 master cylinder as well. I might take that on later this year but i just put it to the side for now.

Went for a drive with an audi group. Car performed great against and with some big power cars that were there. The new meth pump really pulled through. Noticable increase in power all the way through. Motoza also adjusted my N75 duty cycle a little which I'm sure played a part. Sent some logs back to them and hopefully they send back some more fun stuff.

Also mocking up some teflon fuel lines to remove restrictions in the current lines. I don't know if it will make things any better but I'm down to try.

Just happened to click this thread when it appeared in recent posts, and despite it delaying bedtime by quite a bit, I'm really glad I did. What an epic build.

I'm not here much these days, apart from when the server needs moar swearing (I'm very good at swearing), but threads like this could easily give me the bug again. Champion stuff, Edgar. Thanks for documenting it all.

Rob.

P.S. I was convinced that by page eight I would've read: "So I got a deal on a roof rack and a low-miles CFM56..."

Haha. Thanks Rob. It's taken a lot of time and money from my life but i don't have any other vices really. Can't say it's for everyone as there are definitely other cars that you can make big power in and not try as hard but i really enjoy this car.

Hope you're able to find that passion and keep your car going.

The love (as I believe other Rob put it earlier in the thread) you've put in is plainly visible; reading the story so far in one go, following you work through the challenges, only more so. It might be possible to get similar numbers from other machines with less effort, but there's probably less fun too, and I'm sure less of a sense of achievement. I'm a big B7 fan as well - chiefly on the grounds that it strikes a good balance of modernity and mod-ability. I'd still like a TFSI quattro at some point (I had a B5 TQS and it made a big impression).

As for keeping my car going, both me and it are at a different level - it's a sister-brand B6-based dervburner (which came as a gift from my best friend); probably not the most exotic, but it runs well and has all the toys. The extent of my recent spanner-slinging is repairing melted ABS sender wiring (I think someone caught it with a gas axe when persuading a reluctant shocker to let go).

Anyway, again, thanks for posting. I hope the car's settled, but at the same time, that the fascinating journey isn't over.

All the best,

R

New 034 motor mounts going in this week or weekend.

Also finished the mock up lines. Will probably put them in on Sunday. I have a dyno day lined up on Saturday in Fort Collins. Tune isn't finished yet but I'm curious how much power I'm making right now. I'm hoping to get one more revision from Motoza before then but if not this will be my "low boost" setting so it'll be cool to know how much I'm making at around 24-25 psi.

Did a dyno day with a group from Slush at Finishline Industries in Fort Collins. I invitrd Jordan from Motoza and he obliged and came out. Super cool guy and really knows his stuff. They let him sit in the car during the dyno since they found out he's a tuner. Unfortunately we weren't ready for that or we would have brought a laptop and cable to some logging and tweaking. Overall, I'm happy with the progress and Jordan got to see first hand how the car is misbehaving so he's eager to get more power out of it and he wants me to send a log today. You can see on the graph below at around 7000 rpm it would just cut and drop power and my redline is 8000 so it should have been a more linear graph.

More to come. Over 400 hp to the wheels and I'm at 5500+ feet of elevation so i can't wait to see what else we get out of it.
