Hi,
I know that this is an old subject but as I bought the ko4 turbo from someone on here I thought I would post some thoughts. This was bought in the middle of last year (someone from Wales I think) for my Passat (hope you dont mind me being on here but this site is more performance oriented than the Passat site). Its taken this long as I was a little naïve about what I needed-I already had custom code stage 1 and no other mods and thought I could add this and then other bits later. However after having it fitted, no one wanted to map it until I had a FMIC, exhaust and sports cat. I was supposed to be spending all my money on the house and I also had another son born last year so funds were short.
Anyway its all together now with CC stage 2(APU engine) and the above bits. The increase is great, a similar improvement from the original map, but with loads of power now at the top of the revs which was always a disappointment on the stage 1. It would be real fast at low revs then feel rubbish as you got out on the dual carriage ways. Now it keeps the same power all revs and all gears. I took my mate out in it and he had been in it standard and stage 1 and now his main surprise was when I put my foot down and he couldnt believe we were in 5th gear. It is slightly less fun at low revs as it comes in later and you are sometimes going too fast for the small roads before the boost properly kicks in but this is only miner and it does wheel spin slightly less now. I am surprised its like this as when it was mapped I was told that its basically a ko3S in disguise, is it really only that big?
I was so chuffed at having it ready for Santa Pod this weekend but unfortunately it is now slipping the clutch. How long will a slipping clutch last for? As I cant really spend any more on it at the moment. I will still be going to Pod tho. When I get the clutch done I would maybe like to go to a 6 speed as well, seeing that some of the gears are hard to select in the cold. Does any one have any suggestions on places that could do this preferably in the south midlands/south west area, I dont think my skills of hitting things with a hammer and poking them with a blunt screw driver will be enough. A lot of the specialists seem to only provide new bits off the shelf, not like the old days where you got garages to fit all sorts of old bits to your Golfs!
Anyway, I think thats enough to read for now, see you on Sunday.
