Any Ideas???? (maf probs)

Hi, Have got a 1.8ts 2000 aum engine, that with the mag plugged in, runs like poo. disconnect it and the cars fine!
Took out the maf and cleaned it but this has made no difference...!
Plugged it into vagcom, said I had multiple missfires, so changed the coil packs but still no joy...?
Any help will be greatly appreciated as have got my MOT today and not sure if it's ok to drive for a while with maf unplugged?

I think you have answered your own question with this part, just get a new one, the cleaning MAF trick doesn't always work.

Yup, deffo the MAF sensor.

does the car sound any different with the MAF in? did the engine management light come and stay on when you removed it.
