Hi all,

I am new to the forum for posting but have used it many times in the past searching Google for issues so thanks to the wider community.

I have hit a major issue with my 2018 Audi S3.

Driving home from work in Dec, my MMI screen retracted in and has stayed permanently in the down position. An error appears on the virtual cockpit saying ‘initialising entertainment system’ and I have lost my radio, nav, usb charging points etc.

Took it into local main dealer and they have reported back: ‘Found no communication with 5f unit. Checked fuses all okay. 5f unit fault and requires replacement at cost of £6000.’

I was shocked to say the least. I think they plugged it in and did a scan only but got me thinking could another specialist check anything further rather than just replacing the whole unit.

I am based near Windsor, Berkshire – has anyone heard of a total failure before and know of any where I could take my car to investigate this MMI issue further.

Thanks in advance!

Would suggest contacting an independent specialist who can perform further testing. Power and earth might be ok but have they confirmed the CAN commutations and possibly tested with a replacement MMI unit?

A replacement unit does not need to be new, just has to be correct for the vehicle so if a replacement is indeed needed it can be done for a fraction of the quoted 6K, which is 3k more then I would ask for a brand new replacement!

Am based in North London if you fancy the drive.
