Hi, when i drove my car home 2 years ago, my Haldex rear differential broke down on the way home from the dealer. I started hearing noise at a stretch of road with maintenance so the speed was only 50 km/h. Then suddenly the whole back end of the car went airborne, and upon landing the whole back differential cracked... So after 2 months in the repair shop and with a replaced back differential i could finally get the car home.

However... now 2 years later/20000km driven i am getting the same noise that occurred just before the last breakdown... So i do not dare to drive the car at the moment... Going airborne one more time, and maybe in higher speeds, does not feel like something to try again.
I will get the car to a friendly mechanic and we will investigate, but what ever is wrong i would like to fix that the back differential is better than stock.

Has anyone switched to a back differential from for example an RS3? Or is it the same internals in those back differentials?
Any other suggestions to make it stay together is highly appreciated :)

Did the dealer empty the wrong oil by any chance and then done it again down the line? It's happened a few times to people.

The casings are different on other cars so fitment is a bit of an unknown.

Hard to say, first service was done before i owned it, and when they put in another unit in my car i insisted that they (Volkswagen dealer) did service which they did after some argumentation. Unless you are there you can only hope they did it right...
Just by looking at pictures it seems that Golf R and RS3 has the same shape of casting, but it needs to be confirmed by measuring...

They're all very similar but it's hard to determine the differences without having them side by side. I know the mounting points differ on I think the Golf R so that'll be the main difficulty, the innards are likely to be very similar if not the same.

The only car to share the same rear diff is a Skoda Yeti

Yes, as you say, it´s all probably the same inside. Just as information i searched a lot of crashed cars/parts and found that Golf R VI has the same part nr as some Yeti, so we can add Golf R VI rear diff to parts that fit :)

Hmm I wouldn't be so sure. managed to find time to check ETKA and it lists the following:

Up to a build date of 21/09/2015 and Axle code PQX, part number is 0BR525010J - Not used on any other brand or model

Build dates after that with Axle code PFZ have part number 0BR525010E - Only used on the S1 and the 2014-2018 Yeti

There's no reference to it being shared with any other Golf - doesn't mean the casings won't line up but does mean the internals are different. The reference to different axle codes suggests you might have difficulties here maybe?

I gathered some info from scrapped cars, and the E model as you see is on the Yeti, but if you check the others on Yeti you will find more models, and then from those models there are "links" to others:

Not sure where you're seeing those cross refs as ETKA doesn't show them (See pic) so curious to see a Passat share the same part number. Without a VIN ETKA is also just showing the model of Yeti that was produced 2014-2018, the 4x4 might only have been available for 6 months etc
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if almost all of those either don't fit (physically bolt up) or will come with axle drives that don't fit the S1 (hence the axle codes above). It'd be amazing if a commonly available one does turn out to be a direct fit but Audi would have used an off the shelf part if they had one (as they did with a lot of the running gear with a few bespoke bits thrown in to be annoying). Let us know if you pic up a different part and it mounts and fits ok.

Yes, i will tell when the time comes. The data i gathered above is taken from suppliers of used parts. They mark the parts with standard part number and if they are really serious part number marked on the physical part. The data i took was the part number marked on the part. So yes it is of course possible the scrapyard has read some of them wrong but overall i believe it is the marking they have read of the part. Why would they else put an effort to document it? At least that is how i analyse it. As you say, it would be interesting to see if this theoretical approach also works in the physical world.

Ok cool, that's kind of what I expected and I agree if the official parts listing doesn't have the correlation then the only logical explanation is the parts are marked with multiple numbers. Good luck, look forward to seeing what you manage to find :)

Hi Phazer, tried and asked around everywhere, i even was and measured a Passat HAA450 / 0BS525010G and that one does not fit physically. So i am back to square one, no one who can make a stronger diff in the original housing and i can not switch to the bigger HAA450 either... So next is the question of if there are any difference on 0BR525010J and 0BR525010E ? My car has orignally the 0BR525010J as you mentioned before. But if there is some upgrade on the E version that makes it stronger that would have been nice. Do you have anyway to see if they both fit and if there are any internal differences?

Impossible to know as that sort of thing doesn't get listed - new revisions can be change of supplier, upgrades, changes etc.

The only listed difference between the two is the axle code as they're not compatible.

Shame you've not managed to find anything though

Update on the matter is that i had to send my own differential to be refurbished. It went in the car yesterday but then we noticed that the connection plate (do not know the english name for it) between the diff and the driveshaft was broken. So now i have ordered one of those (approx €300 :wtf: ) , so next week it will be fixed

BTW, bought me a Scirocco 1.4TSI -09 with R look to be able to drive around :)
