Anyone fitted a coolant temperature gauge?
The S3 8v pre facelift has a boost gauge instead of a temperature gauge and I was wondering if it's possible to retrofit one , maybe a digital one that I've seen that fit in the dash vents,or any other?

Can you not bring up oil temp on the DIS?
Oil temp is better indicator of engine health than coolant temp. Other options without hacking up the dash or threading wires everywhere is get an obd dongle and get an app for your phone.
apps like torque pro can show pretty much anything.

The dongle and app was going to be my suggestion as well. Also useful being able to get at other engine data, and read / clear any fault codes. No brainer really

Keep an eye on oil temps instead of coolant and you’ll be good.
Highest I’ve seen mine is 109°c sitting in traffic with air con on.

When is it not good at what temp?

I thought it was weird that you can’t get coolant temperature on the DIS. I like that you can have oil temp displayed permanently though, unlike temporarily on the 8P.

make sure it’s warm before driving it hard and high temp depends on oil and when it shears.
I would think start easing off when you see temps above 120.
turbo cars generally generate a lot of heat very quickly.
