Hi gang
Looking at a 2012 S5 V6 with 47k on the clock... car is mint winter very hi spec...
Heard of some issues to look out for butvwhat your thought guys
Gearbox?
Leaks etc
Cheers all

Gearbox needs an oil change at least every 40k IIRC. Would be concerned if there was no history of either this or a mechatronics replacement.

If that's a facelift 2012 (likely) then indeed it will have the 2nd version of the s-tronic gearbox. Whilst better than the 1st version it is still at risk of problems because Audi introduced a 3rd version in 2013. As advised service is essential, and if it missed the 38K service this is some cause for concern. All gearchanges should be smooth - any hesitation or harshness indicates a problem.

The engine has generally been good although it can develop problems at higher mileages or bad luck. The PCV can fail so check the filler cap for suction. Also the waterpump can fail so check for leaks - it is on the left side. Also check that there are no signs of oil in the coolant and vice-versa. At 47K the engine is unlikely to have the timing chain tension issue, but check for cold-start rattle from the rear of the engine. Another rare failure but can occur at lower mileage is the crank pulley. Unfortunately early symptoms are hard to diagnose, but it's worth shining a light down the front to watch the two belts and pulleys - any sign of lateral movement (wobble) would be a concern.

Took it bout today for a 30 minute drive, very smooth, Full ASH, including stronic oil and filter change at 37k. No unwanted noise or rattle on cold start. Thanks for all the info mate... would you say its worth replacing the pcv, waterpump and crank pulley as a preventative measure?

Cheers mate it has full ASH, stronic service at 37k.

For every owner who has had PCV, waterpump or crank pulley failure there will be a number who haven't. Certainly if you have reason to remove the supercharger then it might be worth changing the first two, but otherwise it might be an over-cautions move. Don't touch the crank pulley until you have decided if you are likely to tune the car because the best way to do stage 2 is an oversize crank pulley.
