Stripped Thread

Hi

just made the fatal mistake so stripping the thread on my 1998 1.6 A3's oil sump and in desporate need of knowing what options i have

can i get it re-threaded or do i need a new sump if so where from and how much r is there any other options

either new sump or helicoil

New sump is about £40 from vag parts places, or Helicoil as mentioned above.

helicoil or tap out to the next size up and fit a bigger plug depending on whether there's enough material around the drain.

obviously you'd use a lot of grease on the tap to prevent any swarf entering the sump

Could weld it up. Drill and re-tap it.

helicoils are not the best thigs in the world and I think the sump may be too thin to be useful.

Mine has been tapped and its fine (well, has been for a year anyway)

Cost was £20

thanks for al the advice but i think if i can pic a new sump up for about 40 i do like that idea as it seems like a much better and stronger fix
