Hi all, new to this so give me a chance

Just brought a 2014 Audi A3 1.8TFSI. It’s got 57k miles on it and is cat n. It’s also running big power - bigger turbo intercooler turbo back exhaust etc etc (360bhp ((180bhp standard)) ) Found out that the gearbox has been replaced with a 7 speed 2016 gearbox code RRF (car should have PYV). According to TPS either box is fine for the car but apparently the mechatronics is not meant for the car (Need to get part number and code for this) The gear box fitted has a sensor zip tied to it which is the gearbox speed sensor. They have done this as the gearbox has no cutout for the sensor to be placed in... I have no warning lights on the dash but a lot of fault codes come up when it’s plugged in (will post codes below) and when driving normally the gearbox is fine however when you put your foot down it often won’t change gear, usually revs to around 4k and then it’s as if you are hitting a rev limiter it just won’t shift up until you completely let off. Then when you put your foot down again it will rev out shift up and then tend to do the same in the next gear however strangely sometimes it shifts with no issues at all. My garage is telling me to change the mechatronics unit to correct one however the part alone is £1400 and I didn’t even bother to ask for a labour quote. I have no idea what the best way of going about this is or how to fix the issue hence coming here for advice. I was wondering if maybe there is a way of mapping the sensor out as if they make the gearbox without the sensor hole they must run fine without one?

Any advice or pointers in the right direction is massively appreciated! Fault codes to follow most relevant ones being at the bottom G240 and G28 sensors

If the HW number of the mechatronics of the old and current is the same, then you can flash/update the mechatronic with the correct software.

Sounds like a right bodge job to me. Do those fault codes not clear. Sounds like it's been in a big accident and all the air bags have gone off. Have the air bags been replaced ? Do the airbag check / ecu check lights come on when you turn the ignition on??. They may just be taped over. Hope you bought this really cheaply.
Noticed your post on Pistonheads, As you are in the Birmingham area I would recommend Midland VW . They are very good. I suspect you may be able to rectify the issues on the car but it's not liable to be cheap.

Mechatronics hardware number is 0am 927 769 k

It’s category N I don’t know if the airbags have been replaced or not. When ignition is on EML and EPC light shows but when car is turned on there’s no lights on. I will check if the airbag lights been taped over later but I don’t think so. After driving it more I think the issue is actually that the clutch is on its way out. Was driving the other night and it felt like I had clutch slip then had a gearbox fault issue come up and told me I had no reserve. Stopped put it in reserve and absolutely nothing could rev it but nothing. Turned car on and off and had reverse back and no lights. Drove the car home then left it over night. Got back in it the next day was still sticking in gears and felt like it was slipping did it the whole way on the way to my garage. Got there had car off turned off for about 15 mins got someone to come for a test drive with me to show issues and it drove absolutely mint and haven’t had any issues since... don’t really want to change clutch and then still have same issues but not sure what else to try other than changing mechatronics or gearbox. No engine faults showed on VCDS 3 transmission faults will post picture below

It the number your current or old one?

10657 - RPM signal from ECU
P0726 00 [011] implausible signal

10813 - clutch 1
P1896 00 [72] - temperature shock
Intermittent

10895 - clutch 1
P1898 00 [72] - function restriction

Above number is my current one
My thoughts are that you have the wrong software version on your mechatronic. Use SVM to get the correct software on your gearbox. @DJAlix should be able to help you with this if you're located in the UK.

Interesting look at this on VCDS it’s reading same as carista at the top...

your Carista scan says you have:

0CW 300 046 C

your VCDS scan says you have:

0AM 927 769 K

your design database says you need:

0AM 325 025 M
OAM = hw
OCW = sw

The current TCU sw is probably not fully compatible with the ECU. A SVM should do the trick.

If that does not work, flashing the right software version offline with Odis-E would be the next step.

Are you able to provide a complete and unedited VCDS auto-scan?

I can’t as of now as I don’t have VCDS but I will go back to my garage and get one. Only issue is with it being Christmas think it will have to be the new year now

what is a SVM and how would I get this done? Sorry if it’s a stupid question don’t understand fall this software stuff

SVM is the name given to an update and coding process, the full name of which is Software Version Management. Need genuine VW group service tool for this, which I can assist with if we can coordinate.

let’s not discuss ODIS Engineering as this forum does not support cloned or hacked software.

As you (and i) are licensed Odis users, there is nothing illegal about us using Odis-E..............

You (licensed user) can use official Odis-E without hacked stuff.

Shall I get a full VCDS scan in the new year and we can go from there? Thanks for your support and advice

Need to be a development partner for odis E but let’s not take this off topic.

That would be the way to go for the moment. Need to get as much information as possible but ideally you will need someone local to you with the needed tools to complete the works. More than happy to help where I can tho.

Okay thanks so much for your help. Happy to travel if needs be but ideally would need to be local. I sometimes travel down south Hereford way if that’s of any help?

Am based in Muswell hill, north London, a ways from Hereford. I do have a coding partner in Leicester who you would be able to visit, a bit closer than I am.

Yeah Leicester isn’t too bad. I’ll sort out a full scan from VCDS and we’ll go from there. Thanks again
