Deleting Y pipe

Anyone deleted the Y pipe bit on a 8p s3 exhaust? My flexi joint is leaking and going to map it soon so wondered if it will negatively effect the flow- don’t want to get a downpipe for it yet so thought it could be a cheap fix? I’d be welding a straight piece of pipe in its place so I assume the first flexi joint is enough to compensate for the engine moving?
