When I bought the car back in January the engine struggled to reach 90 degrees and even when it did warm up the heater was pathetic, no warm air at all.
So last week I fitted a 20mm inline connector joining the 2 heater pipes together, basically isolating the heater matrix. I poured a bottle of forte bio degreaser in the coolant system and since flushing that out the engine now warms up very quickly and sits at 90 degrees.
Yesterday I started flushing the heater matrix using the kit I made up in the pictures. The cleaning additive is meant for central heating systems.
I'll keep it circulating for a few hours and after flushing connect everything up again.
I'll update next week.
I am so pleased with the results. The Forte bio degreaser in the coolant system has definitely got the thermostat working and the separate flushing of the heater matrix using some central heating cleaner has shifted all the crud in the matrix.
This morning I drove 2 miles to my local garage for some fuel and the heater was pushing out hot air before I got there.
All the bits cost me around £40 and simple to set up, much much easier than trying to replace the heater matrix.
Mine's in the garage at the moment and one of the jobs is to replace the oil cooler as there's oil in the water. It hasn't affected the heater, but the guys are going to flush and reverse flush the whole system including the heater matrix.
