Hi guys,

Seeing as the only viable option we have for exhaust manifold is a ported chinafold, I've started a conversation with a company doing exhaust fabrication with the view of getting a decent tubular made up - a group buy would be a possibility after he's done the first one. Fully prepared to be the guinea pig...

Guide price of £650 with the option of a billet merge collector increasing the guide price by £300.

So I'm after thoughts & opinions, billet collector or not? I'd expect this thing to be fairly bulletproof and not turn into Swiss cheese after a few months of use.. is that possible without the billet option?

Thanks in advance

Interested to see what they can come up with that doesn't crack, if they can do this then I think theres a good market out there for such a product

Yeah, no cracks is the key.. only one way to find out unfortunately!

Alex C:
Nortech for K04 would be ideal

It's mostly the porting part which is the problem for me, a massive pain in the **** from what I've seen/heard... Isn't quality a bit of a lottery? I can't help but think a good tubular design would out perform the chinafold? But maybe that's wishful thinking

Cost wise a ported Chinafold would be less than the tubular method. There is a guy on fb that ports them and will port match it for ur turbo and I think his are £300 or £400.

That possibly could be me hydro but I definitely dont do them for £300-£400

The reason I've started doing them is because the manifold I recieved from the so called fb chinafold expert was a pile of sh#t with none of the known issues addressed, nothing more than a clean up of the collector.....casting sand all along the port walls! nothing opened up at all, didn't align with any of the exhaust studs......didn't even know why I was asking him if he could get the collector skimmed to run gasketless.
I've spent £££ on tools & having tools made up so I can do a proper job, made a good contact with a VW/Audi specialist around this way & a very well respected engine builder that does the cnc work for me.

There really doesn't seem to be anything of any quality on the market except what Bill offers with his aet package......I don't believe in taking peoples hard earned for sub standard work as this guy does, so slowly word will spread that there is a option to his poor offerings

Who was this out of interest? Sounds the same as one I bought, pm me if you like.

I'm beginning to think that it might not even be possible to design a stainless tubular manifold that isn't destined to crack... Maybe with a billet collector but for £950, I'd rather buy a chinafold and a die grinder than attempt to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks for the input everyone

No need for pm's mate (kris Marsh) runs the vag power group on fb?
If it's the same guy as you got yours from I'd be interested to see what results you got with it as it was....as he said everyone is really happy with his manifolds & not had any complaints.......maybe I'm doing them wrong then lol

See above Bill.....interestingly he's had one of your manifolds & said you dont need to do all that work to them to get good results
