Hi All, just bought a A3 2L Tdi sport, only 67K from new , year 2006, as standard it has 17 inch alloys, 225-45-r17 tyres, they are very noisey especially at rear, been reading up and seems quite common to get a lot of tyre hum noise, never experienced this in other cars in the past, some sites recommend fitting 16 inch alloys/tyres, which should make quieter running, what are everyone's thoughts on this, thanks Weldon.

Tires are graded by the manufacturer for noise, what tires are they on your car.

Hankook ventura, seems when tyres become half worn is when the noise occurs, seems common on the A3 when googled

I think you will find these A3 cars are renowned for tyre noise. Mine has 16 in wheels and supposedly "quiet" tyres but is still noisy on the older, slightly rougher tarmac motorway surfaces.

Ok thanks, something I will have to live with, car drives great, and returns great mpg with lots of power, pattern parts also seem very cheap and plenty of second hand parts about.
