i’m trying To change the rear discs on my 2006 1.9TDI A4 SE and despite a lot of the guides saying you can take the disc out without removing the rotor arm, you can’t on mine!

The bottom rotor arm attaching bolt is in a really awkward place and I can’t fit my socket with 8mm hex&wrench in there as the suspension gets in the way.

Has anyone got any bright ideas on what to do other than have to remove the suspension leg?

you can if you take the pads out, its tight but the discs should just wiggle out.

If you remove the carrier top bolt the whole caliper assembly should swing down , you'll be able to get the disc out then, the bottom carrier bolt is very tricky to get out but you don't need to remove it, as just removing the top one out lets the assembly move downwards and you'll get enough space to get the disc out.

Thanks, mine doesn't seem to want to swing
Think it's a case of using the persuader?

I guess it's been airgunned on, can't get enough leverage with a long Allen key

Success! Still couldnt get the bottom carrier bolt to budge, so got a lump of wood and the persuader and the carrier swung back enough to change it.

I asked a garage what they would charge for labour in both rears , £138+vat

Took half hour to do the other side
