hi guys went and took a look at this and it seems a nice clean car, only thing i noticed was the wheels looked abit tired but the dealer said they'd refurb them and even do them a nice anthracite for me instead.
full service history with cambelt being done 2 years ago at 75k, only bad thing i seen was the front arches on the inside lip at the back of the wheel looked like they had a few rust chips from stones etc.
its even got dab what im after and i love the back roof lining!!, do you think it seems a decent price and are the 2.0 168 tdi reliable and remap well?

I looks good and clean from the pics. Price seems reasonable as well seeing as its from a dealer. Only thing is that these 2.0 TDI engines suffered from the hex key which powers the oil pump rounding off, meaning the oil pump stops and you lose all oil pressure.

This was fixed and the design was changed from the 1st February 2010. The car you are buying was first registered in the 1st September 2010, so it SHOULD be fine, but it is REALLY hard to say 100% when cars actually started to get the new parts fitted to them. As the part design was revised 1st February and the old one cancelled, but if they had a stock pile of old parts laying around I would have guessed they would use them and the new parts would actually start being fitted to cars a few months later, possibly May / June / July time.

With this car being registered 1st September, the actual manufacture date of the engine could have been a few months prior, so you see there could be an overlap where this car was made and new parts were phased into the production line.

Unfortunately there is no way to check without dropping the sump and pulling the hex key out to see if its 77mm long (old design) or 100mm long (new design), then taking it from there.

The modification costs £215 (+ £125 refundable deposit when you return your old part) in parts + 4-5 hours labour at a specialist, or you can DIY if you are good with the tools.

Personally I would still go for it but maybe try and haggle the price and use this as a bargaining tool if possible because I know I can do it all myself for the price of just parts. Also, if you remove the sump and the hex key is the new kind (100mm) then there is nothing more to do, just refit and enjoy the car.

Just something to keep in mind.

Thank you very much for the reply and that information that's gold dust pal!!
I've been on the phone today to the trader and he's very good mates with a friend of mine and said I can take it as a trade deal with no warranty at £7500 if I like or £8250 and they'll sort a scuff on the bumper and refurb the wheels although they don't have any real scrapes and they'll throw in a warranty with it too.
I'm going back for a test drive later but undecided on which option to take, £7500 is a bargain but no warranty but then again some of those warranties don't cover the main things anyway and I can do any repairs myself anyway, it's just cost of parts if anything went wrong like engine flywheel etc!

No probs, if you want I can also post up the service manual pages which detail how to remove the balance shaft assembly so you can see what's involved in checking it.

I can tell you already the engine needs to be supported from above as the subframe needs lowered (not totally removed, just lowered). Will prob be late tonight after I get home though.

Just been back had the car on a test drive over an hour lol, messed with everything I could and it's a very sound car, the turbo feels abit laggy to kick in but maybe I'm used to my mapped old b6 130 tdi.
Can't believe how light the steering is too!!
Its a gorgeous car with loads of extras, just need to decide on the price option I might pay £8250 with a warranty and all the little marks and wheels done rather than drive it off for £7500 and it's still a good price!

I'd have the benefit and assurity of a correct retail sale contract, a warranty ( whether its worth its weight depends on the suporting company ) plus the benefit of all of the little niggly bits and pieces sorted anyday. If anything nasty did show itself with the car - I genuinely hope it doesn't - at least you have some comeback.
Good luck and hope you enjoy the car which ever option you eventually decide upon !

That is exactly the same spec as mine, bar the engine (mines the 143hp version). Great car, not had any major issues in the 2 years that I've had it. I had a DPF pressure sensor fail, but that was a straight forward fix. As mentioned above I would go for the warranty. It just gives you that peace of mind.
