Timing chain slipping issue
Hi everyone I'm new to this website I am having an issue with my 2006 Audi A6 ..I recently heard a slapping noise on the top rear of engine so I took the rear timing gear covers off and seen that the driver side tensioner was shattered.. plastic pieces of tensioner were broken and chain was slapping around on tensioner.. so I replace both sides but the issue that I'm having now is the driver side keeps slipping a tooth after I rotate engine clockwise by hand??the passenger side does not slip at all but for some reason the driver side slips teeth.... I looked at all of the teeth and they seem like they are in good shape.. I'm really not sure what I should do next? but it's getting a little irritating because I have to keep retiming it after it's slips... they are brand new tensioners..help me out please .. I really don't have much money to take it to the dealer I'm pretty broke actually from this damn car..

Re: Timing chain slipping issue

Not had first hand experience of this. What engine? 3ltr v6?

Use the search function on the forum (top right on the page) and look for 3.2 chain stretch.

You don't mention mileage, but it's possible you may need to change the chain if your over the 100k mark.

Thanks for reply..car has 110k.. yeah I was afraid it could be a stretched chain .. I was worried about the valves being bent so I did a leak down test ..every cylinder was between 15-18% except one cylinder that was 20% ..should the valves be ok with them numbers?
