3.0 chain

Does this sounds like chain needs doing ?

That does sound a little like a chain rattling away. Common one to fail are the cam chain tensioners and they can be replaced with the engine in place, if the main chain tensioners needs doing then it's engine out!.

This video shows the common tension failures, but why they pulled the engine to swap them over I have not idea, maybe they had another fault.

You can hear the extra rattle at startup then it gets better.

Yep . It does have extra rattle for 2-3 seconds :(

That's not going to fix it, the tensioners are on there way out and need to be replaced..
 
Just sounds like a diesel to me mate.
There's a pronounced rattle at the beginning, no amount of fresh oil will fix that. The engine needs stripping and tensioners replaced. With Audi is better to stay with a Cambelt driven engine, their chains were never strong enough like BMW or Mercedes chain drives !
 
Here is stone cold start. The initial rattle is much less then the video i did yesterday

Is ur car a manual or auto the reason i ask is because i thought mi e was ratteling but turned out it was the duel mass flywheel that was ratteling .. Just an idea
