Also looking at upgrading the sub ,think the best thing for me to do is take it somewhere !The a3 and a4 takes 6.5" components in the front doors. You will need to buy some speaker adaptor collars to fit an aftermarket speaker though. last week at work I removed some Bose speakers out of a B7 RS4 and fitted Morel Components running off the Bose amplifier. sounds fantastic.
How much are we talking for a mid range upgrade (standard head unit ) as should get more volume off a better amp ?? It's not the loudness so much it's the quality when u Max it
Yeah def want to change the sub to something with a bit more punch not huge levels though quite like the look of the replacement sub box that is sort of oem and takes an 8" subok first of all the quality problem is not really the Bose amplifier its actually the Bose speakers. they are still a basic paper cone speaker which is just poor. the frequencies are only filtered by capacitors not crossovers so also poor. an the tweeters are useless. We are a mercedes retro-fit specialist also and we regularly upgrade C63 AMGs/ML63 AMG with the harman/kardon sound systems by changing the speakers alone to a good quality Morel speaker with dynamat sound proofing which transfoms the sound in the car dramatically. A good quality speaker a silk /soft dome tweeter is a huge improvement. I have just fitted some £600 Morels to my A4 off the standard audio etc and love them. What budget do you have in mind and do you want to change the subwoofer / add more bass in the car. You dont have to spend that much obv.lol
I think it's radio world that sell a replacement unit , yeah that's what I thought 1 channel mono block maybe? You could take out the Bose sub/box and fabricate a new one to fit in its space. i have done this before with a JL audio 8" subwoofer in it. Looked oe and sounded great. the Bose amp wont run this though as not powerful enough.
im in the process or removing my oe A4 parcel shelf sub and changing it.
Like that ?Little jl mono lock few hundred pounds I think.
