Just curious really as to the reason why some ko3s turbos where silenced and others not??

I was told it was age specific so the early aum engined cars where fitted with unsilenced and later cars where fitted with silenced .. mines an 2002 and is unsilenced and I've seen late 2003 aum engined golf fitted with unsilenced also so surly that's not true??

I'm pretty sure my 2001 ARY engined car is unsilenced

My 2002 ARY is silenced

Don't forget these cars are old enough that they may have had a turbo swap... could have been swapped out for a normal K03

I no that's possible but there is 2 types of ko3s turbo 1 has a silencer on the outlet and the other doesn't .. I was just asking if anyone new why some were silenced and some was not. .

I've also read that the silenced ko3s was used on the a4 and skoda octavia to quiet down turbo noise on the rep mobiles but again don't no if that's true or not
