Spare keys functioning properly

I have a 2001 mk1 tt with a full set of keys but the spare will open and lock the doors but when it come to starting the engine it'll start but shut a few seconds later the non remote key and the plastic key are just as useless, so my question is, is there a simple way to sort this out.
