What Jonno said! I see from the pictures of the MiVue 538 that it is powered by USB, so to connect this permanently I'd need to find some way to take a 12V feed from the fuse box and convert it to 5V USB socket. Is there room behind the dash to stick a power adapter like this?

Interested to see how others have done it!

These are what I used to hardwire my usb cam, have the connection in the glovebox:

the usb adapter converts it from 12v to 5v, I used standard 5amp fuse as that is what the connectors load is. Have to use standard size fuse as you would want to tap into the cigarette lighter fuse (which is standard size) to work with ignition on/off

Possible blonde question coming up, can't see where the 12V socket ground connects to - do I just find somewhere to earth it on the metal work behind the glove box?

There should be a bolt on the upper left corner of the glove box you can earth to, that is where I did mine. Just need to unscrew it a bit then push the fork connector in, and tighten the bolt.

Aha, that's the missing link!

Great, think I shall attempt to fit one and see how it goes. Liking the look of the MiVue camera, reviews say mount it to the side of the rear view mirror so you can see the screen.

There's a bolt you can use outside the glove box as well accessible through the side panel, which is what I used.

Yes my dashcam cable comes through the side also, except my tomtom in the glovebox goes through the front panel (for speedcam alerts)

I just hid the wires and used the front cig lighter socket, you can see in this thread/post http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/s3-on-the-way.241225/#post-2420243
