Hi all,

just introduced myself on the newbie forum. Excuse me if I ask frequent questions, just haven't managed to google the answers yet - thought if you guys/girls won't know then neither will google!

1. I've ordered new key fob bodies and replaced one so far. Went out to try it, didn't work, read up various threads and now I have got the replaced key to remotely unlock/lock and start the car. However, once the car starts it dies. I've tried this 5 times and every time it dies. After a massive panic I tried starting with the second key (haven't fiddled about with it yet) and the car starts and stays running - so it must be something to do with the key. Any ideas what the problem is?

2. is it possible to dismantle the lights on a convertible - I mean take the lenses off? There is quite a lot of dirt and moisture in mine. Has anyone done this before and have any tips?

Hopefully I will be able to contribute rather than just ask for advice in the not to distant future!

Thanks

Mike

I think a new fob has to be reprogrammed with specialised equipment

I only changed the cover, the actual insides of the key as well as the blade are the original ones.

Resolved it!!! I simply forgot to move the transponder chip from the old fob to the new one...hence why it kept cutting out.

The headlights don't come apart that easy but if you've got a lot of patience you can remove them by heating up the plastic and bending out of the way and then cutting away the glue there's a thread on here somewhere how to do it

As vr6gordy said it's not an easy job. Have a look at video below, it should give you an idea on how to open them. I know the headlights in video are from B7 but at least you'll know on how to approach them.

... and as usual he's quicker than me lol.

If you take em apart good time for upgrade b8 led

Hi Mike, I think the B6 headlights and tail lights for the Cabriolet are always susceptible to moisture. I think taking out the plastic cover by heating them as described in the video is simply too much effort.
You can pick up good second hand ones on Ebay for cheap.
With regards to the moisture side of things, I would probably take the headlamp out and dry them in a warm place like on a radiator wrapped around a towel.
