I thought I would post about my fitting of my new exhaust system after reading a similar thread a few weeks ago where a member had a BCS power valve system fitted.
I was interested as their systems are made entirely from stainless steel, and if you wanted it, you can have the power valve model fitted which reduces any "boom" noise when not on the boost.
So after searching the forum one day, I saw another member was selling his system (non power valve), and it was only 3 weeks old!
My main concern was that the member had a 3 door S3, and mine is the sportback, and I didn't want to have any fitting issues.
So after a call to Dave @ BCS, he said that the only difference was the positioning of the tips in relation to the bodywork - and that the 3 door would have been positioned further under by about 80mm.
But get this! Dave offered to cut the tips of my exhaust, and re-weld them on his Sportback Jig, if I could get the back box to him!
What great service!
This sealed the deal, and I arranged the buy of the exhaust.
That was yesterday, and I have now had the exhaust fitted by BCS themselves, and I cannot say how great their customer service is.
They don't normally work Saturdays, but offered to accommodate me - even though they had another full system install on a Golf GTi, to do.
After talking with both Nigel and Dave, you can really tell these guys love their work - AND their customers - something that I think is important when you consider buying a system away from the usual named exhaust suspects like Miltek.
I had a decent chat with Nigel, who went on to tell me that he has designed exhausts for years for some of the big named car companies like Bentley and TVR, and how they used to require a signature sound for their systems and how they were achieved.
Suffice to say he knows his stuff.
Anyway, here are a couple of shots of the exhaust system fitted - but remember - this is a second hand system that has been used.
It has a 200 cell sports CAT.
It sounds awesome, pulls much quicker and has really sharpened the response up on a Stage 1 Shark, with MTC intake (ITG).
The sound is incredible on this thing when you floor it - it moves from a deep burble to an almost Rally Car like Spit!!
There is no "boom" on this exhaust system, and when cruising with minimal boost and power it sounds very OEM.
When in higher gears and in very low revs, it can growl a bit, but this quickly moves into a more savage sound as you increase boost and revs.
