Hi all, I bought my first Audi this weekend, a Black 2001 A3 1.8T, Bit of a change coming from a very girly pug 206 (not a good look for a 6'4" tree surgeon )
I ****** love it and would like to do a few things to make it even better. It's completely original so i've got a blank canvas to work with.
I know a few little things I would like to do, namely subtle rear window tints, 17" 9 spokes (it's got the 16" 5 spoke atm), metal pressed plates.
What i want to ask is, what mod's would you recommend? I'm talking from small bits to tuning the engine. Fire away!

Cheers :beerchug:

Ah, should of read that first, some good info. Thanks

Hey bud, welcome to ASN. Alot of advise and great people on this forum :)

What Engine Code do you have?

What i would advise is:

1. Remap
2. 76mm Downpipe
3. Silicone TIP
4. Stainless Steel Free Flow exhaust
5. Forge 007p Diverter Valve (stock is crappy plastic type + tend to break)
6. Jetex Filter if you would like the "Pshtt" sound or leave it stock (No Major Diff)
7. Front Mount Inter-cooler if going Stage 2 Remap

What else to do:

-Check Boost pipes for any leaks
-If your car is AUM spec engine then call Audi agent with VIN number to find out if the Coilpacks have been changed from the Recall campaign they had.
-Lower the car (Coil-Overs or Springs) handles much better.
-N249 Bypass

Hope this helps, if any question feel free to ask :)

Keep well Buddy,Cheers

Deeman88 - Thanks buddy, feel free to add should I have missed out :) There are many more but great start IMO, then to the bigger mods when done with these :) Cheers buddy:icon_thumright:

1st of all, welcome to the forum mate, and as Chaddy mentioned in the post above that's a good place start. You might wanna change your:
Dog bush for an uprated "RED" Poly Diesel one which is slightly harder than the standard one, but not too harsh for everyday driving.

Almost perfect list there!!

I have the same car with an AUM engine, it's REVO stage 1 remap and makes all the difference! I'm currently going stage 2 as now have TIP but waiting on FMIC. The only thing I would add is an oil catch tank as you can stop some nasty oil vapours creeping back into your engine if you get one and vent to atmospher. Otherwise, start with that list and work your way down :)

Welcome arb mate and as chaddy has written don't make that list a maybe list go out have some fun and make it a to do list lol!

thanks chaddy et al, good suggestions there. i was thinking of getting a re map before anything else, a place up the road does it for £250. (is this a good price? +30 to 40bhp) i'd rather have a fast car to start with than a good looking one.

Hi arb and welcome.

Personally, i wouldn't just go anywhere...but as a guide, that's not a bad price.

There are some recent threads on here about good tuners and They would be worth the trip.

It's not just about uploading a program etc...you should use it as an opportunity to learn about your vehicle.

You'll learn a lot from personal experiences and there are plenty on here.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the positive words :) and yes i agree Poly bushes is a must aswell and an Oil Catch Tank :) as mentioned by other ASN members.

@Customboy - I couldnt agree more,It must be a "to do list" and not a "maybe do" list :) after some mods,it will deff feel like a new car :)

@Ads_AudiA3 - Sounds great buddy,I also have an AUM Spec and loving it :) How many BHP,KW's are you making at the moment if i may ask? :) + what mods have you done?

@ARB - I agree with JimGrim77, highly suggested you do research before you remap. (ask UK guys as im not familiar with UK Tuning Specialist) Here in SA we have Revo,CPI,etc and all mainly do the same trick :) some Tuners just use Maps that arent good for your vehicle and others use great custom maps that work great and keep your pride and joy in Tip-Top condition. Always remember - You may have all the best Tuning parts on your car but it will only work best with a functional ECU Remap/Chip.

You will however feel a great difference just on the Remap and the other parts will just add flavour :) if you get what i mean.

Anyways Cheers guys have a good day:thumbsup:

thanks for all the replies.
one other thing, i eventually want to swap the single din tape deck for a double, possibly sat nav.
as it is, the tape deck is above the climate, which is above the useless little cupboard. is it possible to put the climate where the cupboard is, then have a double din head unit above it?

@ARB - Im not that clued up with sound buddy, Maybe make a thread asking ICE questions or search abit :) Cheers Bud
