Hello all,

My first post!

I have just picked up my car from Audi (Jack Barclay London) from an interim service. The car is a 2005 with 35'000 on the clock, I only bought it 2 months ago. They are recommending a cambelt change as it is over 5 years old, I have been scanning the forum and there are mixed feelings. Obviously I dont want it to snap but at the same time the car has done such low mileage and other people are saying the cambelt on post 2003 cars are a lot stronger and can last up to 80'000. HELP?

Secondly, they have said the cv boots are slightly split and want £500 to fix!!! I believe the actual parts are around £20 but to fit takes time.

Please, this is my first Audi and I love it but need some advice of a good Audi specialist in South London that I can trust and doesnt charge the earth!

Thanks
Charlie

I was in the same position as you with the cambelt service, 55 plate car, but with 60k (cambelt potentially good for 80k).

I decided to stump up the cash and get it done in the end, rubber can perish and having had a cambelt go on me before (306 GTi) I don't want to go through that again lol - It's really about peace of mind for you I think.

CV boot wise, you can get that done anywhere really, £500 does seem a bit steep!

I'd get the belt done mate, not the kind of thing you scrimp on!
Could potentially save you 000's in the long run. £250, job done.
As for the CV boot, just get it done at an independent garage, £100 tops!

Thanks PVO_Dave, I know what you mean. It certainly is Peace of Mind, part of me feeling that it was snap at any second!!

So does anyone recommend a good Audi specialist in South London??

500 for the boots? Run elsewhere! 100 sounds a bit more like it. I would get the timing belt done but shop around for a better price as Audi would cost a fortune.

Getting the cambelt changed isn't peace of mind for your car..... it is due.
In fact, its overdue by 1-2 years (depending on when in 2005 your car was made). Get it done asap mate.

As for audi specialists... if you can get to NW London (Wembley/Brent Cross area) then Russell Automotive Centre are very good. They are usually about 20-30% cheaper than audi main dealers and use all genuine parts etc.

Get it changed mate, mine is an '06 and had 20,000miles on the clock when i done mine. Whilst it was in bits I changed the waterpump too for good measure.
£500 does sound steep for the C.V. boots though.
