Buying an S3 THIS WEEK! *Fingers Crossed!* But Which One?!

I've just seen the big turbo one on piston heads, I'm not 100% sure but that might be glen jai's old car?? (anyone) he sold it last year..

Yes, I was thinking the same also and about to make the same post as you.

If it's the very same car, there's a build thread amongst these pages, and it's a full Backdraft motorsport conversion which doesn't come cheap. I remember Glenjai had it up for sale for quite a high price also, which he got, since the car was in pristine condition. He only sold it due to lack of use, cos he had a bike also.

I personally don't think £8k is too much for this motor if it's what you are after, given the mileage also.

IIRC, that is Chris's old car, which also has a build thread. He was about to pick up a B7 RS4 Avant, and wanted a quick sale?

Well I've literally just got back from seeing 'the one' I think...

Black S3
'02 plate
55k miles
Black and blue interior
Bose
In-dash 6 CD
Xenons
Non-aluminium mirrors (what I wanted)
Rear parking sensors

I wanted one with an arm rest, heated seats and cruise control, but this car is too mint to pass on. It's got 12 months MOT, 6 months TAX and FSH. I'd be the 4 owner and a very happy one at that. The interior is immaculate!!!

You think all the above for £7.5k is a good deal? Car is 100% standard apart from a remap (can't remember who did it, but there is paperwork)...

As with any used car, try and get as much off as you can... but I'd say anything under £7k and you're laughing.

And, you're not missing much without an arm rest. Mine was/is more of a hassle than a bonus - good on long journeys, but gets in the way of the handbrake and even changing gear when you're in town.

If it's the car for you, then it's a good deal! Has it had it's cambelt and waterpump done?

Well after some research, I've seen that you can get cruise control retrofitted Armrest can also be fitted, but sourcing one is hard apparently...

Just put a £500 deposit down for the car. Picking it up a week tomorrow. The company specialise in car detailing and are gunna detail it for me during the week since they've got such high standards of the cars they sell. Simon, the company owner is a top guy, made you feel like you've bought a car, not been sold one.

Not sure if the cam belt or pump have been done, I'll look in the service history when I go to pick the car up. If it hasn't I'll wing the price a little...

SO CHUFFED!!!

Thank you all for your help and opinions. Looks like I'll be a permanent member on here from now on

He's just sent me some pics. It'd been on Autotrader for less than 24 hours!

It's dirty in the pics since he'd only just picked it up from the private seller he bought it off...

This is now going to feel like the longest week EVER!

Well done mate.....Get looking through some posts for inspiration and the week will soon go by....
if you had a month to wait you could have started tuftys minor modding thread.......

Cheers for that mate... I'll get down there once I have the car in my hands. Already looking up on mods to do ASAP...

Some James Bond 007 valve?! H&R lowering springs (to then add Billy B8's at a later date). Dog bone diesel bush. Think that's all I'm gunna do in May *famous last words*... GT30 what?!

Jabbasport at Crowland are fitting H&R springs and koni fsd's to mine next week if you want to see it after it's done to see how it feels and looks.

I've got a cruise control set sitting in my room (cables and stalk) that I never got round to fitting since it's a proper airbag out job... yours for £50 if you want it. I was going to send it off with my car now that I'm trading her in, but dealer doesn't know I've got it so happily send it your way if you want.

PM me if you're interested.

7.5k ?? Too much

I'd gone for Glen's old car, it is guaranteed that you will fork out to make the S3 faster

Good luck

I didn't pay £7.5k in the end, and for me, this is a much safer option. I can modify correctly, to my exact specification as I go along. Yes it will work out more in the long run, but it's something I enjoy.

A GT28RS isn't big enough for what I've got planned anyways...

Have read the whole thread, I'm really glad you are getting one because they are great. And the example you have found has got low mileage.

But I've got to say...£7500

As I said, I haven't paid that... You need to see the car in the flesh to appreciate how mint it is though. I feel mad going down the modding route, should keep it concourse and standard, but where's the fun in that?!...

Ahh, hadn't seen your post saying you hadn't paid 7500 for it. I clicked the thread and read it all then posted, you posted whilst I was reading. I've seen my fair share of mint S3's, personally I could never justify it over spending less on a slightly less desirable model. I know that a well kept car with 150K on the clock will drive just as well as a car with 50K on the clock!

However, I'll be interested to see your modifications and it'll be nice to have another minter on the site for us to keep an eye on! Get some decent pictures up asap please!

Already been on the look out for a GTX3076R and forged internals... I'll never learn, and I'll probably end up single! Haha...

I'll get some pics up once it's in my courtyard! Sooo excited. I'm 26 and I feel like a 6 year old on Christmas Eve!

GT30 would put down some serious power! Give Bill at Badger5 a call or email, you tell him the power you want and he'll tell you how much haha!

Is the 1 series in your pic yours? Friend of mines got a manual 135I with FMIC and stage 1 remap...it is NUTS!

I've heard many good things about this 'Bill' chap... I feel if we start talking already, my bank balance will divorce me! I know it's going to cost me around £8k to get around 400-500bhp, but it's something I can do over time, pay for parts monthly and enjoy! I just need to become a lot more au fait with the 20v engine. Saabs/Hondas/BMWs, no worries, but this is all new (and exciting) to me...

Yea the 135i is ours, fully BMWP kitted from the factory, but still only running 306bhp as standard. It's the long-haired generals daily driver, she loves it after I convinced her to sell her Range Rover Sport HST which had a habit of breaking down every-other week!

Now we are talking...I love Saabs. Have had hundreds of the buggers, a 310bhp C900 was the best I had. But then I got the bug for classic Saabs and had a concours winning 99 a couple of 96's, 95's and all that jazz.

Bill is awesome, if you have a look at Tufftys thread you will see what goes on there. I've been to Bills twice and both times I've been stunned by the quality of the work there, and he's really friendly. Engine stuff is obvious, but its what you do with the chassis that counts.

This was my 400bhp 9000, true sleeper -

Such a quick car, even for its weight. E9x M3s were disposed of just for fun! Quicker than the in-laws Ferrari 360 too... He's now sold it! HA!

Love it!

The plan for my next car is an 850 T5, not an R though just a basic spec manual T5. Rica ECU and a 19t should see the best part of 400BHP which will be more than enough to put my girlfriend and Prawn in their places for sub £2000 haha!

The above 9000 had a 19T with a 10 deg clip on the compressor wheel. Everyone said that 400bhp wasn't achievable, but I soon proved them wrong! I made a few more tweaks, and it was probably running around 420ish and then the gearbox went BANG....

The car was sat SORN for months, then I decided to sell it on and let someone else have the fun of owning it. Spent around £5k on it (pretty cheap) and sold it for just under £2k... The joys of modifying cars! lol... Internals were good for 500bhp, that car was so over-engineered at its time, its a joke. Shame cars now days aren't the same.

ANYWAY!

S3, 6 days and counting! Lets see what parts I can buy in that time scale... Any must haves?

Hmmm... Seems like a good bit of kit, but how accurate can it be with regards HP / 0-60 times etc?!... Always been a bit skeptical about products like that. Multiple gauges in one unit are appealing tho...

Seems very good, obviously your dials are electronically controlled so it will be as accurate as they are. It will also read your air flow and give you a live BHP as well as your boost pressure, and temperatures.

I'd pay that but try and get it a bit cheaper.

I got offered one for 7.5k but it only had 40-odd k on the clock and had full black leather...and that was from a garage.

Diesel dog bone bush and Neuspeed P-Flow kit already bought... Shall be fitting these in 5 days!

Next step shall be H&R lowering springs, Forge TIP and 007p.

Forge FMIC just round the corner with a few other cheeky bits :icon_thumright:

I love it when you buy stuff for a car that's not even arrived yet!

Fun times!!

search it dude. product of the year by far!
on danes s3, it gave a dyno proven 19hp gain on a stage 1 mapped s3, with a few map tweaks by bill it gave another 9 i believe. and all that for sub £200

subject to dyno lottery of course, but it still gives you an idea of gains having been tested back to back on the same rollers.
