hi all my DHW is playing up it seems to work then the boiler goes into lockout mode then just cold water comes out, i have to reset it to get the HW working again.

now the question is how do i find someone who can fix this issue the CH works 100% fine its a combi boiler 8 years old

thanks in advance

Recommendations from a friend or family mate. I've noticed a few of my friends who have called random people from the 'local services' booklet and getting done over, but I guess during these periods where everyone needs a boiler man, they can charge a premium, as you are most likely to just use them once.
Fortunately for me, I have a few contacts stored on my mobile who I have used repeatedly over the years, so they have built up a good rep for me to pass their number on.

well if you dont know anybody or havent been recommended anybody, look on the gas safe register website and look for engineers in your area. Most people who are on the gas safe register should be fairly good, but nothing is better than recommendation. A decent engineer could diagnose the fault for you no problem, best case its just a thermistor... worst case is a PCB from the sounds of it.

Visit your boiler manakers website...they should list some dealer approved.I did this with mine and came across a real diamond

Sidebear not visiting London anytime soon? ;)

Ok, firstly I'm not a Gas fitter/Plumber, but I've done loads of jobs with my Dad who is... Have come across this problem before, Ariston boilers seem to be the worst for it- the heater matrix for your HW gets 'furred' up with calcium etc, slowing the flow of water through it, then it overheats. The reason the CH doesn't, is because it's run via a seperate, bigger matrix.
A new matrix will set you back around 50-60 quid... but I've seen them cleaned out (Bicarb or similar will do it) then flushed through- they're really just like a car radiator.
Obviously, you need someone qualified to do this, but it's a 2 hour job max for a decent fitter to do. So, part, plus 2 hours of whatever labour he charges. Or take out matrix, de-fur and re-fit.
As others have said, go for someone recommended.
I cannot say for sure if this is your problem, obviously.. just a few pointers from my experience.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Im a Gas safe registered engineer but unfortunately im based in Birmingham! I may be able to help you diagnose your problem or even fix it.
Need to know the following info:

Boiler make and model
does the burner cut out during sparking process?
have you checked the quality of your ch system water eg if its black and sludgy then that may be a contributing factor towards your problem
there is a switch located near your fan that proves (needs to be checked)

Theres a few other diagnostics tests, but if you want i can pm you my number and try talk you through it. The above are basic checks.

gawd bless ya guvnr pm sent

Is it a Potterton boiler by any chance? Same happened to us in the middle of the freeze a few weeks back, had no choice but to take out the service scheme and they sent someone round the next day, he replaced the circuit board and the clock. Am now paying £20 a month for the cover which includes a service each year.

No it's basically a gloworm
