Anyone know if a 255 will fit a 8.5j rim??

It will be fine. BMW use 8.5 inch rims and fit 255's to the rears. I also did the same to my old Passat.

reason for goin 255 rather that 235 which seems the popular choice is because the 35 profile is nothing on a 235 but a 255 will give a little more profile and tyre protection!

Would be interested to see how you get on with this. Will the wider tyre fit OK? I really want 19s on my car but the 235/35 profile is just too low for my liking. Have just come back from driving in the lakes and my 235/40 18s were rock hard on rough roads. Certainly dont want any harsher ride - it was making the family sick... I have always wondered what a 255/35 19 would be like as it takes the tyre wall close to the 235/40 size..... I notice the TT has 255 19s on them ...... but is the larger overall diameter going to alter the gearing slightly and therefore the speedo? Or is it insignificant? Grateful for anyones real life experiences on this....

have the 255's on. fit great on rear and fit fine on front but a little to snug at the suspension arm! i will now go 245 all round instead but they look the dogs, looks like a monster..!

yea ill sort some pics out before take them off.. bought 235 35 19 again cos got good deal on new continentals..
