Sunroof definitely eats up an inch or two. I always had to buy BMW's without a sunroof or I didn't fit.

If it turns out you can't get the originals any lower, those Golf seats will bolt straight in. I don't know if the Golf has a higher roof line, or lower seats though? Mk2 TT seats might be another option.

I'd get a second opinion from someone who isn't Halfords. Perhaps see if you have any decent indie VAG specialists local? Also how many miles have your shocks done? What size wheels are you running, and if they're 18"+, do they have ****** tyres on them?

I can un-recommend Goodyear Eagle asym 3's, noisy as hell once part worn, I'll be trying Michelin next.

Is it universal? One of the loud cars I tried was Fwd and a quiet one was Quattro.

It happens when you unload the drive train. So mostly when changing gear but also when you lift off reasonably quick?

Oddly mine is a sport and 2 of the S-Lines I tried were much quieter! I'll give my local tyres & exhausts place a ring tomorrow and see what they have listed. Looking under the car the 'suitcase' isn't as long as some I've seen on MK5 gti's.

Yup, it has door cards and a red arm rest. I might leave it in as it's a lot of hassle to pull out! Except the arm rest, which is driving me nuts. I've spoken to a trimmer and he says you cannae widen the seats. So I've got a A4 B7 SE seat coming, as that was very comfy in my old car.
