    oil change

can't help but recently took mine to a local indy for an oil change. annoyingly it needed 5.6L to replace the oil, which meant we needed to buy 5L + 1L of Mobil 1 5w30.

    Custom Gauges on RMC/MMI Screen

talking of MMIs on the S1 (2017 model) does the screen automatically pop-up/down. on mine it's always up but the screen movement feels like it could be motor driven, if so I need to check the fuse. but wonder if wasting my time as they are not motorised on the S1.

    S1 clutch issue

sorry I should've said I did also put in a new DMF at the same time. I wasn't expecting the chatter but my mech told it's because of the lack of springs you'll get that.

    S1 clutch issue

moving from the standard sachs clutch to the performance one you notice the lack of springs to take up the pressure when the clutch isn't engaged. did you notice a bit more chatter / judder on this new clutch from the old? I did on mine, and yes I've now got new left leg muscles I didn't have...

    Heater getting barely warm

I might be wrong but IIRC the recirculation button should only determine if any fresh (outdoor) air is allowed to enter the cabin mix with the air coming from the heating/cooling system. i.e. you'd want to close it as you pass the sewage treatment works. the bypass flap is separate (I think)...

    Heater getting barely warm

or the flap to the matrix bypass is not blocked but "stuck" (as in constantly open)? so when you drive the movement of cool air coming through the rad is reducing the temp of the warm air you're getting when stationary?

    Heater getting barely warm

what about hitting the recirculation button (to effectively block the outdoor fresh air entering the cabin). does this make any difference when driving? do you get a full range of hot to cold air in the cabin when stationary running (i.e. from LO to HI on the climate control)? sounds like...

    S1 - What tyres ?

£130 for "AO" marked Continentals from Camskill https://www.camskill.co.uk/m61b0s7850p132144/Continental_Tyres_Car_Continental_ContiSportContact_5_Continental_Conti_Sport_Contact_5_225_35_R18_87Y_XL_%28AO%29_FR_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_D_Wet_Grip%3A_A_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_72dB

    S1 - What tyres ?

what Phazer said re: comfort and look, but would also cause a misread on the speedo and possibly some rubbing on wheel arches if driving (drifting) around on full lock if you did have lowered springs

    S1 - What tyres ?

Sport Contact 5 is also getting on a bit (I think they are up to SP7's now), but they are the "AO" marked approved tyre for the S1 so I also went for those. the tyres are still newly manufacturered (obvs) but I guess Michelin/Continental don't see the value in developing a newer model given the...

Hi, I wondered if it was worth waiting for an S1 with the Bose sound system in it?

check under the boot cover, the bose system included a subwoofer that fits snugly in and around the battery, also the MMI interface might have Bose settings for the stereo audio setup, which might suggest the speakers / door cards have been removed if the MMI thinks it's still there?

Be prepared to stop (before you add power)

Morning all, did my first Track Day at Bedford on Monday with Javelin. Fantastic weather given the time of the year. I recently had the Thermostat housing and Water pump done by AMD Tuning who I got to datalog the car which confirmed it had been remapped but as yet (due to the 4WD rollers...

Audi S1 - Air Filter housing - missing vacuum tube

well dang I found it, I traced the vacuum hose using this part diagram (https://www.oemvwshop.com/6r1612041aj-vacuum-pipe-with-non-return-valve-audi-a1-s1-8x-p993463/#gallery) to follow find the hose and it wasn't actually missing but instead had been tucked under the engine cover and wedged...

Audi S1 - Air Filter housing - missing vacuum tube

Does anyone have a photo of where the vacuum tube attaches on the opposite end to the OEM filter housing onto the S1 engine. As you'll see my car has this missing (yellow ?), there is what looks like a vacuum plug but this is blanked off (red ?). The car is running fine, no lights on dash or...

New S1 Owner - Questions from this newbie

Little update on mine: New Continentals fitted (and relax), new Sachs Uprated Clutch and DMF done. My left leg will soon be like Arnie Schwarzneggers, but already it's transformed the way the car drives. As ever you find something new about your car when you get under the hood. The car...

    Wing Mirror Q.

on the mirrors topic. my passenger side mirror is a bit blurry (foggy) and doesn't have the heated line element like the drivers side. So I'm wondering if the glass has been replaced at some point with non-OEM. Can anyone confirm if their passenger side mirror has the heated element or is only...

New S1 Owner - Questions from this newbie

thanks Phazer, even better with that pic :icon thumright: I'm minded, despite the cost of Haldex (or in fact any oil these days) to flush it again, so will be a good chance to check the guaze in the pump. As mentioned the haldex that came out had obvs never been changed it from new it was very...

New S1 Owner - Questions from this newbie

Thanks Phazer for the tips on tyres and gears. Sounds like Conti's are the go to tyre. I'll get the clutch and DMF done and look at the gearbox adjustments. The gearbox oil we took out looked pretty clean (v.v.little particles) for a 50k mile car. On the haldex oil it was filthy, but no we...

New S1 Owner - Questions from this newbie

Been about a month since I picked up a 2017 Audi S1 - Mythos Black with Sat Nav, Bose and Heated Seats as options. Completely stock (afaik), but so quick you can be forgiven for thinking it must have more than 230bhp. 50k miles, first job was haldex, brake fluid and gearbox fluid change...
